Peter, 4 out of 5, quoted on UK breakfast TV this morning. Interesting that different countries are coming up with different figures, again I wonder why. Perhaps because the figures I mentioned are based on real data. Judge for yourself. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/03/16/datiP2015P20marzoP202020_15180341.jpg.pagespeed.ce.g_OqNsCnOc.jpg) The columns are: Hospitalised with symptoms, Intensive care, Home isolation, Total currently positive, Dismissed/cured, Deceased, Total cases, Tampons (swabs performed) You can probably assume that those with mild symptoms are those currently in "Home isolation". The first 3 columns add up to the 4th. The 4th, 5th, and 6th columns add up to the 7th. If these figures are accurate that is truly scary..

Jays if you are referring to me with peter tearing his hair out. That is my point. So many facts & strategies, each seemingly having their own reasoning/agenda. To return to my original comments. Why stop the world when most people only get minor symptoms. Or we are not being told something. Please note this is from someone living in the uk & following the supposed uk facts. Sorry if I am struggling to make myself clear.

Why stop the world when most people only get minor symptoms. Because lots and lots of people become very ill indeed and a significant number die, far more so in proportion (50 times more or so) than die of Influenza. If the resources of the NHS are stretched beyond their ability to cope, more people will die than would otherwise be the case. You might not be bothered about the prospect of becoming infected, but what of all the people you will infect before you become symptomatic?

Sorry if I am struggling to make myself clear. I’m not getting at you personally. The information being given to us is via the press mainly and depending on what you read you get some differing reports. The government hopefully from today will be making public announcements. We don’t need Grant Shapps saying one thing and Matt Hancock saying something else! My comments are that because we don’t test to the same level as other countries we end up with a skewed view of things. Are the figures quoted from tests that have taken place at hospital where the patient is subsequently admitted for instance. I’m not sure where the comments about most people getting minor symptoms come from and hopefully they are correct but irrespective of that the government medical advisers have said that the NHS will be swamped and to expect a lot of deaths of vulnerable people. So we have an obligation to protect those who are vulnerable and shouldn’t just pass this off as something that we needn’t get too concerned about. I sincerely hope that you are correct.

Ice Pack I am with the others on this one. Email and forum threads do not provide clarity around manner and intention and so can be read in many ways. Right now Peter is probably feeling a reasonable degree of frustration. As I have said in some of my posts I also do not believe it is being handled particularly well but that is literally just my opinion and others are WAY more skilled than I am. When I read yours I see a somewhat combative set of comments where you question others but do not put forward anything to support your own comments. We have an unwritten rule (well I just broke that rule, whoops) of playing the ball not the player on the forum in order to try and maintain a happy community. It is good to discuss and consider but always with a positive contribution in mind. Peter has long been a well studied and positive contributor to the forum and tends to show his logic. If someone chooses to question it then their view is respected as well but it is best done with a solid response quoting facts. I am afraid that your comments do not come across in that manner as I read them. I apologise if that causes offence as it is not intended to.
I am among the least WOKE people (perhaps with the exception of JtL of course - and perhaps the joke section with +8RICH but that's another story) so please don't read this as a holier-than approach, just trying to level out a thread that feels like the wheels might come off given the increasing intensity of the global situation.
I have a 90 y.o. Italian mother-in-law living in Fleet. Her initial response was "B_ll_cks I am not staying in" yet even she is now worried finally, thank god. I take the videos the doctors are starting to share as more evidence than pretty much all of the fluff I see on the TV. Subject to a level of mistrust about anything I read on the web etc. of course. They seem a little more than "worried" to me and are at the pointy end of this. I also applaud the support of the community being shown to them right now.
Not meant in a rude manner, I just think that the forum is a great place and want to keep it that way.
p.s. I am not a mod, just a member.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I think the UK press as usual are driving the panic mode button. They should be sticking to facts not whipping people into buying loo rolls & pasta.

Having scanned most of the headlines, in the local shop today, they are (IMHO) irresponsible! My emergency back up supplies are mainly potatoes, cheese and baked beans!
