I have already heard from one of home-working ladies that the keep-fit she is doing will now be run on line. The trainer has taken a free account with 8x8 (video conference) and is using it to run the class with people joining in over the interweb. I am told you can all attach a suitable pulse tracking thing and it shows up on a scoreboard. Just what we need. People having a heart attack at home whilst all the beds are in use!
May we live in berserk times. My daughter in South Africa is a Pilates Instructor. She is currently preparing to run her classes on line. She is very worried about what will happen because so many people in South Africa live from day to day and do not have the resources to stock up on necessities.

With all due respect, are Italians not actually losing loved one's in spite of no-one laying out the hard truths at the beginning??
I prefer to be treated as an adult and given the best assessment of the likely scenario ..... many in the UK have very poor focus on anything outside their interest-bubble ..... talking reality may help get across the severity of the situation ....tho for many I doubt they'll open their eyes and ears until someone they actually know, and are close to, dies.

I know I should leave this, but out of interest Fergus Walsh on BBC evening news just stated that 9 out of 10 will only experience a mild illness. Before I get flamed, I personally believe Peter’s figures.

Before I get flamed, I personally believe Peter’s figures. We should have faith in our scientists they are world leaders in their subjects but since we as a nation took the wrong decision over Brexit everyone outside of our country seems to think they can take a pop at us. Frankly I'm tired of that attitude and it's disrespectful and it's become boring . Keep the faith true Brits and stay clear of this virus.

K I'm not quite sure why I bother to reply. I had to leave it for a while or risk to get a bit out of order with the forum rules. I can assure you that Italians have been given the hard truth from day one! The very first area was very quickly placed under quarantine even with Police blocks in place. Successively other areas were placed in quarantine in an effort to control the spread of the virus. Every add break on TV we are bombarded with publicity to stay at home and take all the well published precautions. Road blocks are in place and this morning my wife was stopped by the local police for a control whilst walking the dog and doing some shopping at the same time. I can't imagine what hard truths you think we should have been told, unless it was the Boris Johnson hard truth that we should do nothing and let it run its course so that the herd (did I hear you say Baaaaaa!) becomes immune at the cost of loosing 10% of the population.

Rich Hesitated before posting this but.... I’m with you on being ruddy fed up with the constant negativity about our country. It’s non bloody stop by some people and now not even in the soap box so I can’t get away from it. Please please give it a rest. We know that this is a crap situation . We are all worried for our families and friends. I am not an expert so I am relying on those that are acknowledged to be world leading authorities in their relevant field. Other countries may have it right and we may not but this is a situation that no-one has ever had to deal with before so all are learning as we go along. If all the people saying how crap we are maybe were in the position of having to be responsible for looking after the interests of 65 million people then I wonder if they would have the courage of people like the Whitty chap. We know it’s serious so please stop telling us how the U.K. is doing it wrong. How do you know we’re doing it wrong. We don’t know. I don’t want other people telling me how crap my country is non ruddy stop. It’s boring. We are all dealing with different issues aren’t we in our own lives? If you want to slag the U.K. and our experts off please do it in the soapbox. In my humble opinion Malvern Arms should not be as political as it’s become and give me a break. Please. I’ve had enough and am tempted to give TM a break for a few weeks as a result. I come to TM to enjoy a good discussion with people who love Morgan’s ie you lot. I like to be educated and this regularly happens here. However, the number of experts here saying they clearly know better than those who are trying to do the right thing with perhaps a better understanding of the bigger picture....Can you tell I’ve had enough? I appreciate I may be the only one feeling like this and of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is my opinion that is all. Keep safe wherever you live in this v small world HB

The problem was with Italy that the huge sudden spike in northern Italy completely overwhelmed their hospitals and people with underlying health conditions already in hospitals caught it as well as people coming into hospitals
They were completely overrun
They had to lock down quickly and no one can argue they didn’t have any choice
During the lock down, testing just couldn’t keep up with infection rates so data is completely screwed
The death rates can’t be used to predict death rates in other countries on different trajectories because of the massive spike, timing and massively overwhelmed hospitals
The Italian experience Will be looked at carefully but their measures shouldn’t necessarily be copied by countries at different stages of this event in my opinion
