Very emotive use of language there, Dave.

Let's look at what's happened.

1. Most countries badly affected by COVID-19 adopted a suppression strategy

2. The UK, guided by its scientific advisers, adopted a mitigation strategy

3. Other scientists thought this strategy was wrong and said so. Many other people agreed with them and said so.

4. The government, again guided by its scientific advisers, recognised that the emerging data indicated some potentially undesirable outcomes and changed to a more suppressive strategy.

Does this really count as "Blighty bashing"? Was it wrong for people to identify the weaknesses in policy and draw attention to them?

I am a massive patriot, I think the UK is a wonderful place to live and I owe my allegiance absolutely 100% to our country and my community. But patriotism is not the same as Exceptionalism - or even worse, Nationalism.

I don't think that because I love the UK so much it makes us automatically better than anyone else, and it's precisely because I care so much than when I believe we are making mistakes I call them out.

I want us to be as good as we can be, and I firmly believe that this is best achieved by working and co-operating with the international community rather than dismissing their skills and expertise as being somehow inferior to ours.

So being the over thinker and planner that I am. I decided to get in a few supplies to last me a week and save me out going out again and exposing myself to risk. Not much, and not hoarding. 8 Bars of chocolate, 6 bottles of wine, 2 frozen meals, 3 packets of biscuits, one packet of Ritz and a tin of Polish smoked trout that took my eye. About one weeks worth of essentials. So with all that and enough materials to keep me busy building the fence we are making. Yesterday night I thought great for the next week I will now stay at home and do my bit to stop the spread of Covid19.
How did that go I hear you ask?
Well thanks to some grub with poor hygiene, and obviously me touching my face at some stage in the supermarket inadvertently before using one of the 3 sources of alcohol hand cleaner back at my car.
I woke up at 6 with the worst gastro I have ever had (and I have had a few) so to spare the details. I succeeded beyond my wildest dreams at staying away from people, I not only stayed way from strangers but also Paula and spent nearly all day in bed.
Job done

I wish. Back into the cesspit this morning. About 15% of kids are self isolating due symptoms, family symptoms or high risk due to health issues. At least three that I know of sent home due to displaying symptoms (they're having to play everything down to avoid panic) Several classrooms have been evacuated for deep cleans (bit like bolting the stable door, but there you go)

Most rooms have now run out of tissues and hand sanitizer, and new stock is taking an age to appear.

Most of us now are just waiting to get infected....

You take care at the coal face there, that does like a very high risk level you are working in.

TBM I have a question, serious and not meant in a flippant manner. Most of the video conferencing companies are now offering free access to registered users. I suspect it will be a matter of time before these do become swamped but has anyone considered working out if a distance learning approach can be used a la the Australian outback.

I do not want to make assumptions that everyone has Internet at home or a computer sufficient to run it but am going to guess that it is higher on most peoples list than many things these days. Hold a meeting room as a class room, have people log into it. Combine classes into a single room and run the class constantly. A PC Tablet or phone can run the client on these systems so it is broadly open.

Thank you. It's a tough one - parents in the NHS, Emergency Services, Shop workers etc need to be in work, and not at home looking after kids. We also have lots of kids who's only square meal of the day is their free school dinner.

On the flip side, many live is small social housing, with parents and grandparents so the spread will be fast and widespread. Also, the vast majority of secondary age kids are able to be left at home unsupervised.

We've got plans - a central hub in MK for kids in key workers/at risk categories, and a rota of teachers who are able to supervise, but just need our illustrious government to make a decision.

Interestingly, the Department for Education have advised their staff to work from home...
