Possibly, as they will only have the children of frontline workers to supervise ,teachers will have the time to evaluate and assign assessed grades .....my worry is that to avoid screeching parents they will be undeservedly generous ..... however it's only one year and if they aren't up to the Uni courses the get onto they will hopefull be weeded out there .

Bulletin from the front.

[Linked Image]

The columns are: Hospitalised with symptoms, Intensive care, Home isolation, Total currently positive, Dismissed/cured, Deceased, Total cases, Tampons (swabs performed)
You can probably assume that those with mild symptoms are those currently in "Home isolation".

The first 3 columns add up to the 4th. The 4th, 5th, and 6th columns add up to the 7th.

The drop in the percentage increase, today a 13% increase in total cases.

In other good news a huge amount of help is arriving from China: doctors, equipment, machines, plasma samples of cured people etc. Much of it donated and other items purchased. We now have some Chinese doctors working at our local hospital with the help of volunteer translators from the local community.

How is this going to work?
Do students miss a year or have teaching staff got to perform another load of admin work to give students their qualifications?
And if they miss a year, what is the impact on Universities ?
Or have I misunderstood?

Your guess is as good as mine. At the moment we have no guidance at all. I would not be at all suprised if they have no idea what they're going do, and will formulate a plan as time progresses.

We'll sit tight and wait for OfQual guidance. Remember, nearly all qualifications are final exams, rather than having a coursework module. We have some 'mock' results from November for Yr11 and January for Yr13, but it's not really a fair comparison.

Seems a lot hospitalised compared to the number of cases - thought only a very small minority would need care as in most people symptoms are mild?

I am just reporting the real figures. It is up to you to decide, on the basis of those figures, whether or not you are receiving the correct information and what precautions you feel are appropriate.

I will just make one comment. It has been said that the annual flu epidemic causes more deaths but this is in addition to the normal situation and is clearly more dangerous, in terms of percentage of hospitalisations and deaths than most Flu epidemics. In areas severely hit they have had to close the cemeteries, they have run out of space for the additional burials.

In Austria and Germany school is kind of creative in using online tools.
Feels like my little one at the age of 15 is more active than he used to be in normal school.

Pupils are more focused on self learning and the seen to take the responsibility.

So not everything seems to be bad.

Intensive care is much of the diffenrece in Europe.
I just learned from a friend who works at Roche that there are 8000 beds for intensive care in Germany compared to 1000 in Italy.

Maybe there is much of the difference in numers. Sad to hear...

Even a small minority of a very large number is a lot. We're looking at up to 7 or 8 million people needing hospital care over the next couple of years if we get 70% infection. That's why the policy has switched from mitigation to suppression, we need to flatten the curve way more than originally anticipated.

This is a very serious illness, and BJ's language in today's press briefing is a clear indication from the Government that we need to take things a great deal more seriously than we have been up to now.

It seems there is some truth to this! A family member who works for one of the large supermarkets tells me that the Corona beer shelf is the one they're not having to restock. Sales have plummeted, expect some good discounts soon!
