Lots of second home owners!!!
The West Country also has few ICU beds than the rest of the country
A friend who is a retired oncology prof believes that an influx of second homes owners from the cities will bring the virus and then take beds and strech the NHS further in the West Country
Is travelling to a second home essential travel?
I think the second home owners should stay in their primary home

Fully understand people wanting to get away, however they should consider the limited health resources of the smaller communities. Will they? Of course not!

It is a bit of a mixed bag here. Travel to a second home is forbidden nationally from Friday to Monday inclusive. This is to discourage excessive movement at the weekends but perhaps recognises that some people have a good reason to go to their send home. Local ordinances however may override that decree and I would not like to have to try to justify going to our second home.
Policing and roadblocks are in place and in some areas the military have been called out. In Milan, for example, the normal military that have been in place near critical security points have been increased by 114 who are patrolling together with the police.

There are a couple of infections in a local village that appear to have originated from weekending Londoners. The long incubation period before emergence of symptoms is a real problem in containing this.

Ours are all staying put and doing what they can in their neighbourhoods as well which is what we expected.
We are limited in the help we can offer as I am in the at risk group not through age but medical issues.
The head of Cornish Tourism was on the local news last night pleading for these people not to come but that needs to be on the National news, these people think they can escape the virus by running away from their metrops but they'll bring it down here to the old and vulnerable with finite NHS resources.

Travel to a second home is forbidden at all times. Policing in place at the seaside and at the borders with Germany and the Netherlands.

Well my son & girlfriend , both of whom are teachers are staying in London to teach the critical workers and generally volunteer, They had of course an open invite to come to Suffolk. Well done them! We owe a massive debt to all the public service employees, health workers, emergency services people, delivery drivers, shop workers and all the other underpaid folk who are placing themselves at risk to help the rest of us. All we can do is stay at home and not exacerbate the problem by unnecessarily exposing others to the risk of infection.
