Good move by M & S Food Stores.

Two days per week, the first hour of trading is restricted to the over 70s and vulnerable.
Two days per week, the first hour of trading is for NHS employees only.

Chapeau

Check their website for details of your local store.

It seems that the Bergamo area suffered considerable transmission of the virus because it was not recognised soon enough that CV19 had entered the area. Probably most initial infections were being written off as flu and people in that area are the type of hard workers that would "soldier on". They are also fairly family oriented social people so would have probably had a fair amount interaction with family and friends.

It is sad that the number of deaths has been so great that cemeteries have closed and the local crematorium has been unable to cope. An army convoy left Bergamo this morning to carry coffins to other crematoriums in the region.

We have some good friends in that area and are very naturally concerned about them. I studied Italian for two summer intensive courses at Bergamo University and we visit the town often.

People have wondered why Italy has such a high mortality rate. Strangely enough it may be in part because we have such a good medical system and in part because of that an aging population.

This information was published by AGI (Agenzia Italia)

The report is clearly based on information that was collected some time ago and annalised when all the data became available.

Quote
Only 1.2% of the deceased had no pathologies...
Only 1.2% of people who died with coronavirus had no pathology at all. This can be read in the updated report from the Institute of Health on the characteristics of deceased patients. The survey, conducted on 481 victims, found that 6 patients (1.2% of the sample) had 0 pathologies, 113 (23.5%) had 1 pathology, 128 had 2 pathologies (26.6%) and 234 (48.6%) had 3 or more pathologies. The average age of deceased and coronavirus positive patients is 78.5 years. Higher by 15 years than the average age of positives. There are 942 women (29.4%).

36 deaths among the under-50s, 9 the 30-year-olds
There are 36 deaths with coronavirus in Italy among those under 50, a percentage of 1.1%. In particular, 9 of them were under 40 years old and were 8 male and 1 female between 31 and 39 years old. Of 2 patients under 40 years of age no clinical information is available, the other 7 had serious pre-existing pathologies (cardiovascular, renal, psychiatric, diabetes, obesity). This can be read in the updated report of the Istituto Superiore di Sanita' on the characteristics of the deceased patients.

Hello everyone

The situation in Madrid is really sad. Quite critical I would say…

As you may know, we are forbidden to get out of our homes since last Saturday, so a week now. But for very precise – and properly justified to the authorities if they stop you – tasks such as going to the closest supermarket (we’re not allowed to go to that other one we like that is on the other side of the town), pharmacy, doctor, walk our dog, etc. And always alone. If they see more than one person in a car, we’re stopped and get a ticket.

Restaurants and regular shops / businesses are obviously closed. A total economic ruin for these kinds of business. And the government will NOT help at all. The measures that the socio-communist government announced are just a bluff.

The worst part happens at the hospitals. It is now known that the saturation of people infected by the coronavirus is such, that they are choosing who to give a breather when the patient is really affected. If you’re above 65 years old, they might give your breather to younger people. So, you may choke to death, sedated in the corridor. I can’t imagine the psychological situation for our marvelous doctors and nurses. What a terrible, awful, disaster. And what an amazing strength they have. Every day at 20h00 we open our windows and applause them for minutes. Well deserved recognition. I hope we learned the lesson and never forget.

We’re fourth in the dramatic World ranking of deaths, behind Italy, China and Iran.

What really shocks me the most, is that yesterday Friday, the polices had to block the exit of the main cities as we, Spanish latin-minded people, decided by thousands that it was a good idea to leave the house and go to the second house on the beach or at the village or visit relatives away.

Fortunately, the polices massacred with tickets from 600 € to 3000 € all these baboons and obliged them to come back to their homes.

We will extinguish one day, and it will not be because an asteroid, but because our own stupid selfish behavior.

Javier,

sounds awful, my Daughter and partner live in central Amsterdam. the same basic restrictions, but bot so tightly locked down. She can walk to Vondel Park, but that is essentially all. The trams are still running to facilitate essential shopping.
Here in our semi rural setting we have a large garden and open woods and paths close by. All places of entertainment, eating and drinking are closed and non food stores are closing there doors. So it is tolerable, but how long can this go on?

I have said for years "every species has the right to extinction, and we are no different". You are right, our own stupid, selfish behaviour that evolved since the 1970s is largely the cause and society needs a hard "Alt-Contol-Dlelte" reset.

Just received this from a fellow Morgan owner friend

Assistant Director of Nursing at QE has said they’ve had a message today that virus seems to be spreading quickly via petrol pumps so they advise to wear gloves when filling up or use paper towel and bin straight away. Can you please pass this around anyone you know.

Could make huge difference xx

Just got this from work - pass it about . Xx

Watching the BBC report with the MEP from Lombardy, I get the impression that public transport seems to be a huge contributing factor?
