I expect that others have has that moment when there is that telling squeak from the front of the car when cornering which indicates that your w/w's need a slight tightening. But how often do you have to tighten them?

Its just that mine start squeaking after about 150-200 miles which I am sure they never did when the car was new (1997 4/4) The splines look OK so does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you sure that the squeak comes from the Wheels?? If the tapes under the front of the bonnets are dry they will squeak when cornering. Either smear them with Vaseline or apply some Volvo Anti-Squeak tape to the under side of the bonnet fronts to eliminate this. Same may apply to the tapes at the rear of the bonnets, but the front is the usual culprit.

Cheers!

Thanks for that.

But I am sure its the wheels.

If a wire wheel gets undone by itself the only thing I can think of is that the hubs are on the wrong side of the car (spinners on the left have to have right hand thread, on the right left hand thread).

I suppose you have checked it anyway. Back in the 1960's a friends TR4 was delivered with rhd threads on all four hubs...

And something unprobable: do you drive backwards a lot and have to brake hard while doing it (steep driveway or such)?
