Wrap some masking tape around the cutter so it is a nice sliding fit then give the extension a tap with a hammer to centre punch the baffle.
Remove the tape and resharpen the pilot drill then off you go.

I found the drill bit awkward to use and it was much easier to remove it just using the cutter with WD40 as a lubricant, applying light pressure to start the cut then letting the cutter do its business. I didn't need to wrap the cutter as 38mm was the size of the baffle and the cutter without the drill bit cuts it directly without any movement.
