We had Joanna on old Tom Tom. We went to Plymouth & when we got to the port Joanna told us to turn right & take the ferry darling. My daughter was in hysterics for about 5 mins.

I have a TomTom Go 600 - and it will be replaced by another TomTom. Some cautions though:

1) Make sure the traffic feature is all built in - some of the cheaper models need a smart phone connected via bluetooth which is clunky.
2) Garmin offer a model with a built in dash cam - avoid this like the plague - the processor in any satnav is marginal at best and the extra function is several steps too many for the built in processor
3) Make sure you get one with a memory slot for additional memory - TomTom Europe is beyond the capacity of the built in memory on our device. The newer up range ones have 16Gb built in which is just enough but the maps keep getting bigger - hence the need for extra memory
4) The devices that upgrade over WiFi are easier to use - the only real problem we have had with our TomTom was when I changed my computer and the new machine had a default fire-wall setting which messed up the upgrade on the TomTom. The support desk was very helpful built it was a pain to have the problem in the first place.

Good luck.

My son had a GPS, and the voice he downloaded gave incorrect directions sometimes, by design. The map was always correct.

I switched from TomTom to google maps about 10+ years ago, on my phone. It was faster and more accurate.

My tin top has a built in system; google maps is better at judging traffic

I use Waze, it is a car focussed service owned by Google and includes both speed limits and your speed...
It is free...
And better than the system in the Mercedes.....

You pays your money and you takes your choice😊

Having used TomTom for some years followed by Garmin Nuvi followed by the built in BMW system it’s Garmin for me.

Unless you like the stern lady on TomTom demanding you “turn around where possible”!

I have a TomTom Go 520 World with lifetime map update for the whole world. It has enough memory for all of Eastern Europe, Western Europe or everything in the USA including POI and all city maps.
I have it since 2017 and it has been used twice on extended trips in the USA. It is very precise. It has guided me through Seattle, Memphis, Nashville and NYC. It also knows every little way to the beach in Oregon. All this for 130 € or a bit more, I can‘t remember, 4 years ago. I still use it. The radar detector is extremely reliable. It's all I need. I'm just updating the maps because this thread reminded me. Super easy to use and with clear navigation, accurate speed and speed control warning even in Austria and a friendly voice. This digital FM for traffic reports also works perfectly and everywhere.
It has its own built-in Wifi and does its own updates without a PC. If this takes a while I let it run before going to bed.
