It should be easy to check and see if you have this switch fitted, while using the throttle with the right foot, gently apply the brake with the left foot, the brake should override the throttle cutting off the fuel, when the brake is released the fuel will flow and the throttle work again.
Most cars have this feature (im sure my roadster, plus4 did this) my tin tops do.

a level of adjustment is a basic requirement.

Richard, you are correct, notworthy the thin folded backnuts on the original looked too flimsy to be actual nuts to me

I don’t mind the loom diagram. Takes me back to when I did the wiring looms for Gen-sets (1978)

Update: the replacement switch arrived from MR (thanks for that).

You can see that the terminals fit nicely on the new switch

[Linked Image]

Unfortunately the terminal insulators are like this

[Linked Image]

So I have to cut away the sides of the switch like this. Nothing’s ever easy
[Linked Image]
Now I compare the two switches, and the new one has a simple back but that won’t go to the bottom of the thread, so I swap the old skeleton back nut, and hey presto, it looks like I won’t need adjustment.
The end nut is a knurled ring , which I don’t trust, so I put the new back nut on the front. Genius. I can secure it with a spanner
So it’s all back together
[Linked Image]

Interesting that whoever last fitted the guard plate is a Wellings disciple.

I was about to replace it (I have got some neoprene!) but I decided it might be an original Wellings feature complete with the patina of age, to its better to conserve than replace. I must make a note in case I lose marks for it at the next Concours.
The whole point of this ramble (someone else can provide the synopsis) is that had to make a new tool to hold the brake pedal back, which will find pride of place on my tool board. I am willing to licence the design for use but others, but I am going to keep the intellectual property to supplement my pension.

I feel very sorry for anyone who has read all this, it just shows what you have been reduced to during your self isolation!

Now, has it cured the power loss problem? I don’t know. But I did clean the floor mat, which is where I started!

Looks like a result, you could also wrap the slightly bodged switch end when the spades are fitted, with self amalgamating tape, which will insulate & retain it all together

No! It’s an example of the factory’s hand-crafting skills
