Can any guitar playing morgan drivers recommend a looper pedal? I have never been let down yet by asking weird question on this site.

Depends what you want to do. I have a Boss RC3 which is a great basic pedal with loads of recording time and 99 slots so it's great if you want to have a library of loops.

But the looper I use most often is the Digitech Trio+ 'Band in a box' pedal. This is brilliant for playing with yourself (ooer missus) as it creates a bass line and drum accompaniment from a chord progression you give it, then you can loop and overdub a separate accompaniment and noodle a solo part over the top. As you can imagine, without being able to play with anyone else I'm using it an awful lot at the moment.

Well I’m not a guitar player really although I mess about with a telecaster occasionally but I had great fun with a TC Electronics Flashback pedal with my synths and keyboards

I’ve just sold it on eBay because I’ve gone back to using rack mounted effects to simplify as I’m not playing live anymore

I was sure T-morgan was the right place to ask! Thanks for replies. I guess a telecaster qualifies as a guitar (from a Strat and Les Paul lover). The boss would suit me fine as described but the Band in the box is tempting. Thanks ...

Tim's pedals sound very state of the art!

At the other end of the sophistication scale I recently got a Fame Looper mini-pedal - for £33 I thought it would be worth a go even if it ended up being crap - which it isn't.

Has 10 mins capacity, USB port to import/export and dead easy to use. Only downside is as a mini-pedal you need a 9v supply as no internal battery.

I use it mainly as a learning aid - to drone a root note and then practise intervals, arpeggios and different scale & chord variations over it. I'm very new to music theory and educating my ears to hear the notes properly is actually proving harder than getting my fingers to do the right thing.

Another one that caught my eye is the Boss RC10r, same kind of deal as the Trio but no bass line. Here's Danish Pete getting his funk on with it:

I have the Boss RC-3 and it works really nicely but not many good drum settings in it, more just 10 different metronomes than drums in my opinion.

I like the sound of the RC10r video above.

I think I need one.......it seems it keeps replaying something you just played badly so that you can then play something else badly over the top of it.......I must be their target market! laugh2
