An article here in an Australian newspaper on two door soft top cars recently noted $A85k for an Audi, $A119k Porsche, $A99k Merc, $A85k BMW and with all the features which come with them. You would then have to wonder who the buyers will be of the very few traditional chassis current V6 Morgans still available here at around $A170k & in the future likely something north of $A225k+ is the gossip if the newest plus 6 ever get here. Even the new plus 4 model relative to these prices will be a far cry in price from Morgan’s reasonably affordable history to most of us aficionados. When listening to Richard Hammond picking up his Morgan on the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geUg4U7ru4Y his friend says "you don't buy a Morgan, you become part of the family" which is an interesting way of looking at it. Hammond says, "I love my new toy" and perhaps that seems to sum it up. The end of an era and much as we love our ancient affordable Morgans , we wait to see what evolves.

Before the lockdown earlier this year we had several factory visitors from Oz who wanted to place orders for the new PlusSix.

Issue is that they yet to be certified to ADR (Australian Design Rules ) so cannot be road licenced . Suspect there will be very few whom whilst interested ,will part with this amount of cash .Then Lord only knows what comprehensive insurance cost will be as from postings we've seen on the internet of several sixes accident damaged in UK and Netherlands that repair is nigh on impossible.

Three plus six on the road here, but we don't have ADR issues the cars just have to be Euro compliant like UK. But likewise the pricing is significant out here and I suspect that any more new cars coming in will be plus fours, you just can not make A business model work for a dealership here unfortunately with the entry level pricing going ever higher and the factory's stocking requirements.

Before the lockdown earlier this year we had several factory visitors from Oz who wanted to place orders for the new PlusSix. There is plenty of interest in Australia or should I say there was before the social and financial impact of Coronavirus. I understand David our Perth Dealer (now former Morgan dealer) had three serious contenders when the Plus 6 was first released.

I think your right Brian. The initial interest has been reduced based on projected costs and the lack of service or support. Not to mention there will be range of interesting "discretionary" cars on the market once the financial implications of this pandemic are felt.

Walkiore, I would to get your reviews of the Plus 6, costs and experiences.

Waikiore you are spot on with what we know of the MMC business model in our part of the world for a dealer appears just plain nonsense . Also interested in comments requested on costs and experiences in NZ including comprehensive insurance.

The new cars once freight, insurance , gst and compliance are taken into account must be north of $200000 which put them in some pretty rarefied company, for example Mclaren have a proper dealership here where you can walk in pay the man and pick up the keys and go, like a Toyota whilst being treated like a king , as they do in Sydney. They have a model now not too much more expensive ... I have not been for a ride in the CX chassis but believe it to be very capable, interestingly not really wider externally than my old plus 8 But with negligible space to put anything behind the seats where we can and do store a lot. Insurance appears to be no problem, and since there are Toyota and BMW dealers everywhere here servicing should not be an issue, for bodywork we have a top Morgan man in Auckland though he may wish to retire one day. I look forward to seeing Morgan's take on a new coupe in a year or two - a modern SLR hopefully. Personally I believe that they should drop a compliant 1600-2000 cc engine in the 4/4 and keep it going till 100 years - imagine the interest at the visitor centre and with the press, also enabling a trad and affordable entrance to the Morgan world, (without the warranty and other safety issues of the M3W.) Just my personal ramblings not wishing to offend.

I imagine McLaren would have a strong presence in NZ being the spiritual heart of the company. McLaren the Movie - very much worth a look...
