Just a question from a new Morgan owner do I need a mesh grille for behind the grill on my Morgan plus 4 2020.

Also where is the best place to buy it if required.

I would also ask can I remove the number plate housing at the front of the car from behind using the nuts therefore not removing the number plate.

Do you need it? - No. It might stop small stones etc damaging the radiator but a number of my Morgans have managed without one in the past. They are available from Morgan dealers at a price! It is possible to remove the number plate housing from the rear, as long as the bolts remain captive.

It wasn't always standard. Hearts of England sell them as does Melvyn Rutter

When you change your radiator and have an aluminium one fitted, a mesh guard might be a good idea. Recommend changing the radiator soon after the warranty expires - it is cheaper than a ruined holiday. Some last 6-7 years, some last forever and a great many last 4-5 years.

I had the mesh grille fitted from new - stops stones damaging the radiator, looks good and also I use it to fasten my badges to the car - no more than four at a time - does not seem to affect the cooling.
If you are in MSCC put a small add in Miscellany - someone may have a spare. Otherwise most dealers would have one.
Likewise take Paul`s advice & fit an aluminium radiator - Sifab or Mulfab both do them and are excellent keeping temps down and very strong fixings etc. the original rads were made for cars which do not flex - -so the plastic pipes tend to crack after a while - knowing my luck it would have been in the middle of Dartmoor, in a blizzard with no phone signal - so better safe than sorry and invested in ali. rad before it was needed. I have not regretted it - in the four years or so since fitting the fan has only cut in on three occasions - all in a lengthy stop/start queue for over fifteen minutes. Mines on a 4/4 Sigma engine by the way.

I don't know what they cost now but I priced up one for my car some years ago.
I thought, what, for a bit of mesh. So I bought mesh from EBay more or less cut to size..a bit of adjustment and....looks the same

No, the bolt heads will just turn under number plate.

On my car the nuts are riv nuts & as Richard says the box has to come off.
Here is a shot of my car with the grill off. You can see the Riv nut on the cowl box.

Rivnuts were used for a while, and my 04/05 Roadster is like John's.

But my 2012 had rough cut ovalled holes in that panel, as does my 2016.
