I am considering installing a new rear view mirror to replace the big black factory version. I quite fancy the one that can move up and down on a stalk. However before proceeding I have had a look at the fixing of the current mirror and I cannot see how to easily remove the metal fixing that is stuck to the glass. The mirror itself came of easily. I don't fancy getting too aggressive with it for fear of breaking the windscreen, but I can't be the first person to try this. Any tips gratefully appreciated.

The factory replaced mine when I picked up the Aero SS it clicks onto the fixing I think? Will go and check.
Steve Simmonds did my Aero 8 and again I think it just clips onto the same fixing.

Thanks Andy, but it's the fixing I am trying to remove from the glass as it will not be needed with the stalk attachment.

There was a thread on here about this. I think it is effectively superglued on so a super glue release agent will work.

Beware of changing a fixed rear view mirror for one that can glide on a stalk.
I did that on a 4/4 4 seater and the result was: a reduced field of vision and above all tremendous tremble and vibrations which made that change rather useless.
Also the upper fixing of the stalk made the soft top less waterproof.
I don't know if that is also the case for an Aero SS.

Tony Oh ok if you want to remove it my solution is to park it at Le Mans Classic in 40deg C facing the sun. At least that's what made mine fall off

Parking at Le Mans in the sun..........probably the best reason for an annual change of rear view mirror me thinks!
Thanks everyone for the advice have scrapped the idea of the "stalk" and will simply replace with SS version on the same bracket....life's too short and all that!

Thanks everyone for the advice have scrapped the idea of the "stalk" and will simply replace with SS version on the same bracket Our 4/4 black mirror fell off with a little Glasgow Kiss while trying to find something under the dash.  On the Roadster, the factory set the bracket really low causing a big blackspot so I asked the dealer to move it up nearer the top of the screen which was much better. so the brackets must come off easily enough. I've change now to the Lebrands small SS version which is much better with its convex lens.
