Hi Chris. Re your cover, simple, effective and a joy to behold, which makes me wonder if you have any connection with the aviation industry ?? Stay safe and cheers, John.

Hi John.
Nearest I’ve ever got to the aviation industry was a tour of the Rolls Royce engine plant at Derby last year! The technology on show there is a sight to behold.
Experience in cobbling together aluminium sheet fabrications probably comes from my motorcycle road racing exploits in the not too distant past.
For my sins I am a Civil Engineer in a specialised sector of the construction industry. Now semi retired and delivering training courses as and when. Or I was pre-lockdown....
Best wishes
Chris

One thing that surprises me though is how water can stay in the plug recesses. Surely the heat in the engine will dry them out? Unless the car is left out in rain too long. Perhaps the water is sealed in there! Perhaps it is actually accumulated condensation and not rain water. Here’s a different perspective from an old thread. This is an interesting and very plausible theory. I feel a 6 monthly plug removal / inspection regime about to break out!

But now that I have some louvers a way of keeping water off some of the critical engine components is on my list too.

So with nothing better to do I decided to have a look at my plugs. 2 and 3 were fine but No1 was quite corroded around the nut and no 4 very rusty - see photo. This is on a car registered in Dec 2018 that has not yet done 10,000 miles. So now I am going to make one of Themorganeer's covers, probably without the oil filler hole - if I ever need to put in some oil I will remove the cover. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/05/09/Plug-2020-05-09.md.jpg)

For only around 18 months old, that level of corrosion is shocking

BHM had a devil of a job removing No1 spark plug on my car last year when I had all 4 replaced, again due to corrosion, a engine cover is a must have it seems!
I did manage to get the ford kit for the GDI engine and work with BHM to modify it to fit as I would not be able to make something as nice as DaveW or Chris did.

Hut through this forum. There are plenty of solutions to choose from. Amazing what you can do with a bit of stainless/aluminum or plastics and some imagination.

My home brewed engine cover. Cut from a 500 x 500 x 2 aluminium sheet, bent round a 50 dia wooden stake and fixed with some spare QD Dzus fasteners I had lying around. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2020/05/04/IMG_2940.jpg) . Wow that's a beautiful job
