I have an 84 4/4 (1.6 cvh) 4 seater that I bought 10 or more years ago when my kids were little, it’s a no frills car that you wouldn’t be fussed if the dog jumped in or an ice cream was spilt, which is why I bought it.

Because I’ve had it so long, and know exactly what’s been done over the years, I don’t really want to part with it but I would now like a 2 seater so as the car, it would seem, is looking like having a Coronavirus enforced year I’m wondering if it’s possible to convert a 4 seater into a 2 seater as a project?

Anyone know if it can be done?

I have seen conversions where a boot like lid covers the rear seats. I am not sure that a full conversion is so easy. I thought the 4 seater had a different chassis but I could be wrong.

Yes, I think the chassis is the same, so you could change the body, front screen and hood to two-seater versions.

There have been a couple of conversions. Simply removing rear seats and soft top rear cover similar to a tonneau cover.
I wonder if a solid, hinged clamshell type boot lid would alloy a trad 2 seater hood to be used with suitable studs to fix the rear of the hood. That would be a great luggage carrier without the bulbous 4 seater hood. It would eliminate the issues of rear passenger safety too.
A solid boot lid would be a made to measure for each car. Remember the Morgan build tolerances?

I have seen somewhere a conversion like that but can't remember where

The problem you have is a 80’s 4 seater has a higher body line than the 2 seater, it’s most noticeable at the scuttle. You can convert the rear but it will look a bit like the high line 2 seater of the late 50’s..

I would stick with 4 seats and enjoy the extra luggage space also gives you more opportunity to use it as more practical.

Steve Simmonds did a few "conversions" that meant you could configure as either 2 or 4 seats i think they were called "Dickie Seats"
Ring Steve!

A friend has one (1983 car) and it is splendid. Effectively a 2 seater with a boot and with a hood that is easy to operate.
