For me the enjoyment of something like this is coming up with an idea and just playing with it for a while and seeing where it will go, not so much the repetition of doing it more than once or twice! The functioning "prototype".

Still needs wood facia, dial bezels, glass and proper Speedo needles - the ones fitted are carved out of a piece of wooden cloths peg. I'm sure that committee would approve of the use of some wood

The lockdown has slowed down access to components and I have to wait until people get back to work in order to try and source the instrument spare parts to complete the clock.

The program that drives the microcontroller is pretty much complete. It has a small Real Time Clock with a button cell battery to keep the time so that the clock hands automatically reset to the correct time at power up. It also automatically compensates for daylight savings time and advances and retards the hour on the appropriate dates and times.

The next trick is to try to port it to a smaller microcontroller and try to power it with a rechargeable lithium battery. I suspect the current draw will be too much to effectively power it with a small battery pack.

That's realy good, just needs a third pointer for AM/PM.

It is a bit the same logic as the 6 hour clock . You know if it is morning or afternoon: in other words between 6 AM and midday, or midday and 6 PM, all the other hours you can't see the clock anyway

By the way I forgot to mention that I am using automotive stepper motors that unlike most motors do not turn a full circle. I can use this feature (as do car guages) to set the zero point. On power up I reverse to the stop and then advance a little from there to arrive at zero.

My simple lockdown project. A rain deflector for the spark plug tunnel on my Sigma engine. 300x500 Aluminium propeller plate, 20mm fold on the two long edges and the bracket lengths set to give a 10 degree fall toward the exhaust side. It looked nice in the polished alloy but the Morgan badge got lost in all the shine, so I have etch primed it and sprayed it gloss black. The four brackets use the rocker cover bolts to hold them. As always I got to the end and stuffed up drilling a hole in the wrong spot off to the right of the Morgan badge, so rather than try and fill it I put another hole in the same spot on the left and put two useless bolts in there, so it looks like balanced and like they should be there 😂
As a bonus I need to buy more tools, a small shop brake for the folding and a Rivnut/ Nutsert tool to mount captive nuts at the top of each of the four brackets.
