Apart from social distancing, what's the problem with people travelling..? Far too many middle classed NIMBY's whinging on the news. Pubs and cafe's are shut, so there's little chance of any contamination there..! Shops..? Well, they should be regulating anyway, local or not. Public toilets shut, so none there. Travel in, have a walk, go home. Job jobbed.

Exactly. Watching tonight's news there didn't seem to be the massive migration to tourist spots that was expected.
Certainly the M5 was not busy.
There will always be the odd idiot, there always will be.

I think it is all about the social distancing, with a number of factors coming into play:

1. People aren't very good at measuring, and think that 6 feet separation is safe, whereas an aerosol from a cough can easily travel further.

2. A very good way to massively cut the risk of infecting others is to wear a mask, even a simple cloth mask, and yet there's a huge reluctance to do so for some reason.

3. People still aren't aware that they can be asymptomatic carriers and so believe that if they feel fine they can't be a danger to others.

If isolation can be maintained, then of course there's no problem with travelling, but as history has shown, people do tend to think that it's all over and it's safe to go out now way before it actually is. If they don't maintain the distancing and other controls, we'll have another peak.

Many European countries went into lockdown 4 or 5 weeks before us, and it's logical to my mind for us to come out 4 or 5 weeks after.

I have observed the lockdown to the letter.... having had 3 heart operations they would wheel me straight past the ventilators to the bins.

But, because of the partial easing, I have been out for a drive several times and it's felt great to do so. I have used a technical measure called 'common sense'. This relies on a very complex matrix of assumptions.

1. CV19 is highly contagious and deadly - keep your distance from everyone. Particularly cyclists and joggers who will leave a stretched plume of vapour much longer than 2m.
2. Don't touch anything unless immediately sanitising afterwards.
3. Consider everyone as either vulnerable or infected.

Unfortunately most of the public are barely functioning cretins and this type of guidance will be beyond their grasp. They need individual rules, specifically created for their particular lifestyle. It's far better that these morons stay at home.

This may be true in Surrey but it most certainly isn't in Worcestershire.

Hamwich .... not sure where you get the 4-5 weeks from ..... only days between implementation of measures ..... schools closed later but others have yet to close non essential shops.

I've been watching the way people behave in supermarket ques and within the supermarkets I use, Waitrose and Tesco.
In general I have to agree with Neil, so many of them just don't get it, given all the media advertising how can anyone not get it.
I'm also not impressed with the cursory way the supermarket staff "disinfect" the trollies, so I take my own decontamination pack with me, comprising anti bacterial wipes plus anti viral blue meths spray.
I wear gloves and in Tesco, not Waitrose, a face covering. I also have an alcohol based hand sanitiser.

As soon as I'm one or two people away from getting a trolly I put gloves on and in Tesco, cover my face.
Then when I get the trolly I spray the handle and wipe down.
I pick up one of the "self check" devices and spray that with alcohol and wipe down.
Going round I keep my distance and when 2m is not possibly I make sure I keep my back to people.
After paying out I go to the car, unload and return the trolly. Only then do I take gloves off and use hand sanitizer on my hands.

Is all this "overkill?" Possibly. I'm less and less convinced Covid is highly infectious, if you are a reasonably healthy white caucasian under the age of 60. Even if you get it the mortality rate may not be exceptionally high, but as so few have been tested we have no real idea how many people there are who have had it, and recovered and who have had it and not really noticed: some estimates say up to 25% of the population, others less than 5%. The only way to know for sure is to test everyone, which Roche would love but isn't likely. So mortality rate could be anywhere between 0.05% and 5%. Likewise the R Number and number of new cases per day are virtually meaningless, because we have no idea how many people have caught the virus, and not really noticed. The NHS only picks up the people who report as ill.

Given the above, we limit our contact to people we know have also been properly isolating. It is very much a case of "Stranger Danger"... nothing would get me on public transport until we know more about the virus.
