I've got a 2012 with 4,500 miles on it. The right front tire is practically bald while the left is just fine. Any ideas on why ?

Alignment, either just front or a front and rear combination.

I have a question about "alignment".

In a stock M3W, there's no front alignment available other than toe-in.

With toe-in, your front tires either pinch in front (toe-in) or pinch in the rear (toe-out).

When either is the case, they self center creating the same right front and left front alignment relative to the direction of travel. Am I not wrong?

So if there's no other alignment for a "stock" M3W, toe-in would exhibit the same wear on both tires, correct?

Possibly, but seems unlikely, the original owner made lots of left hand turns to wear down the right front tire. Possibly tire inflation too.

Without the Empire kit, or whatever they are calling it now, that's the only way to get any camber or caster differential between the left and right tires.

Or there could be a bad frame that's causing the right front to have adverse alignment and with the history of the early frames, it may be worth looking into.

Again, if I'm barking up the wrong tree about no alignment on the frontend or that toe-in can be specific to just one tire, fill me in... smile

If the problem is only on one side do a careful check for a broken frame. 2012's were famous for them. Good luck

Unless the back tyre is not central, and in conjunction with one front wheel to make the other scrub?

My US dealer also questions if the rear wheel is out of alignment. How do I check that ? I am getting a rolling squeak out of the rear end.

I've got a good local motorcycle shop that deals with belt driven rear wheels so he might be familiar with alignment

Belt position, should be centered on the sprocket, especially the rear sprocket.

Not exactly true. Belt has to track true and straight to the sprockets and do not move sideways during forward and reverse rotation...

Mine overhangs the sprocket by 3-4mm

Also depends on if you have a steel or alloy sprocket. I was surprised when I changed from the steel sprocket to a Supermax converted original alloy one that the two have different offsets relative to the hub. I have the black later design hub installed, btw.

With the steel sprocket installed, I could center the belt in the rear sprocket with the rear swingarm relatively centered in it's bearings. After the install of the alloy sprocket, the belt now runs with a very slight (1mm) overhang with everything running true.
