I think I would be tempted to push his whistle where it wouldn’t be affected by sunlight.

Having spent many years visiting the NL for work every month I am very aware of the traffic problems and in truth the Police are super efficient at getting it moving. ;-).

My Dad's best mate was killed whilst on his Police bike...

And all our Coppers can do is bollock you because your parked on a very wide area of curb whilst depositng shop takings at 7pm with no one about.

Most dont. I used to ride Blood Bikes which with all the markings, high vis etc looked just like police bikes . Several were in fact ex police bikes. And time and again you would come up behind someone and after a miniute or two there would be sudden braking down to the speed limit. Or they would suddenly more to one side of the lane to let you through. On other occasions it would be like Moses and the Red Sea ( or was it Dead Sea?). Fun but trying to "make progress" on a bike through traffic is fraught with danger

I lived in Den Haag so recognised the route.
I found drivers more bike aware in Holland than the UK but then I left in 1996.

Very professional team there.

Anyone that's ever ridden will understand just how difficult it is juggling balance, arm waving and brakes/throttle. Add in two way communicating, whistles and split second timing and it's a very fine art that takes a lot of practice and skill to be that slick.

I once did a training trip as a passenger in a traffic car...Volvo. Part of our ops room training for familiarisation with what it was like at the sharp end and be able to communicate the officers needs better. Instructor drove with an ongoing commentary. We got up to 140 on the A40 to experience the public road high speed thought needed. Nothing more such as T-Pac or Stinger deployment. We did some town higher speed routes too. All with lights and sirens.
Chatting with the instructors was a huge plus as it highlighted techniques for observation. We had a couple of bikes join in at one point to show how they could set up roundabout, junction clearance to let us through. Part of the demo included use of systems to get car details.
Officers have to qualify for various car driving, no pursuit unless trained etc..
If we were borrowing a pool car to go somewhere ( I did once) we had to be assessed by an instructor beforehand. He pointed out some minor improvements I could make but nothing untoward. Phew!

I was lucky enough, during my career, to experience road skill tuition with a couple of police forces.
Using both cars and motorbikes, they taught me techniques that I still try to incorporate and also an admiration of their road skills.

In return, during my 9 years at Land Rover, we taught them off-road driving techniques.
Once I was working for Suzuki, we gave them track tuition at our race school. (Usually Mallory Park).
The latter was a fun day out and the police officers went away with a new respect for the track skills of out team riders.
We also tried to have a couple of our grid girls running the hospitality and I believe that was also appreciated!

Tea, cakes, chatting, polishing cars, cussing.. That sort of thing..?
