On the bright side, I see the government has realised the iniquity of surcharging foreign-born NHS workers for their medical treatment. Yesterday BJ was saying that it would continue. Superdrug has been accused of “playing on people’s fears” by charging £69 for a home antibody test for coronavirus.
The pharmacy yesterday became the first high street retailer to launch a testing kit for use at home, however concerns have been raised over the accuracy of results with the chain saying it will detect Covid-19 antibodies in 97.5 per cent of cases.
Antibody testing is seen as an important part of the Government’s approach to ending the lockdown and opening up the economy and it is understood to be in discussions with Swiss firm Roche to procure millions of tests for use by the NHS.
However, it is yet to be confirmed what level of immunity, if any, infected people develop.
Those taking the Superdrug test would prick their finger at home with a lancet, collect a few drops of blood in a vial and send it to be tested at an accredited laboratory via prepaid post.
However, Abbott, the manufacturer of the test, said it was not intended to be used in this way and should be administered by a medical professional.

Of course the £4.5K (or thereabouts) cost per year per taxpayer of the NHS is unlikely to be raised from a nurse on average wages... but that's a problem of general health system funding, not a problem for those willing to travel abroad to work...

The theory is that the recent immigrants have not contributed long-term to the NHS hence the surcharge. But it is unreasonable, by the same logic recent school leavers should also be charged. (But on the other hand Spain now has something not dissimilar)

I reckon the furlough scheme has made the British public much more accepting of social distancing and the whole safety at all costs position we are in.
Without the furlough scheme and the pressure of needing to find work to pay bills, I suspect social distancing will take a back seat and people will realise that life is a risk, and that CV-19 is for the vast majority of the population, not a huge deal.

This bank holiday will be interesting.
Visitors to the beaches along the south Dorset coast seem to have no idea what Social Distancing means.
I predict no one in the 15 to 35 age group will take any notice at all.
The doomsters are all predicting a second peak, perhaps to justify their position.
What happens in 10 days when there is no second peak?
The Government is close to loosing public confidence as messages from different sources within England are not at all consistent, for example new infections and deaths in London are now close to zero and the WHO doesn't believe that 2m distancing outside is of any value.
The 14 day quarantine system is too little, too late and will trash an already struggling economy. Enforcement will be virtually impossible outside urban areas: I can't see anyone in Wiltshire able to find the time, the Police and Council are stretched far enough.

So HM gov introduces a 14 day quarantine for those arriving in the UK.
So that will help kill the travel industry & tourism.
It sees to me far too late and not sensible now.

I really am losing faith in their leadership Easier for me, as I never had any faith in them in the first place  We were promised guidance for secondary school opening on Monday evening. We're still waiting for it. We've created our own plan, but are now waiting for the next promised update in the 28th May. If it happens.....

I didn't vote for them & I did want to give them a chance but as a bio chemical engineer by training I can see as they are mainly Oxbridge humanities or PPE graduates they are lost.
