If you are in isolation for 12 weeks what happens after 12 weeks?

Are you magically more resilient, especially as there appears to be a more relaxed stance by a lot of people.

We have two at work in 12 weeks isolation, when I asked the management what happens next to them, they didn't know.

The virus hasn't gone anywhere, and it isn't going to be easy suppressing the wish or need to get out and about.

So what happens next?

Another

4 weeks for some workers
12 weeks for other workers
at least 12 weeks for vulnerable

So we can gently introduce herd immunity with the best chance of not breaking the support services now that we have exposed them ?

Not being flippant but there are only two choices.

1. Go out - might catch it, might not.

2. Stay in - affordability both financial and mentally.

My wife is in 'Isolation' for 12 weeks, correctly its termed 'shielding' as her immune system is currently compromised and its an attempt to protect her totally from coming into contact with anyone carrying the virus, including me. We both get irritated by clear violations of 'the rules' and the current easing of restrictions which are impacting on the much flaunted R value.

She's not left the house or garden for 10 weeks and has coped remarkably well. I've only gone out once per week to get shopping as home delivery has been very difficult to organise despite the government promoting it. We are just in Wales and the organisation here is nothing short of a shambles. Having different rules 2 miles away from home is a problem too. I cant go out for a drive in any of my cars yet if I lived 3 miles away I could.

She has asked several times what happens in two weeks and no-one can give any sort of informed answer. The only two things we know for certain are her immune system remains compromised and the virus is still there in the community.

I would say caution & common sense are our allies here. If in a shielding group I would stay at home if at all possible. Every day at the moment the R is falling slowly.
Till there is a vaccine stay safe & be cautious.

I think they said 12 weeks in the vain hope that they might have formulated a plan in that time!

My 'oppo' on the Pastoral Team has compromised immunity and has been told not to return to school until September. Quite what will have changed by September is anybodies guess......

I think we should all use our brains, stay as safe as possible but recognise that, just like all the other bugs in the world, it isn't going anywhere so lets enjoy our short tenure on this planet but do it carefully.

Interestingly the WHO are now recommending 1 metre safe distancing , I wonder if that'll be introduced here ?

Once again one rule for them and another for the rest of us. He's broken more than one rule in making this trip.

Common sense will be what gets us through this. I have had to maintain a level of factory output right through the last couple of months as we were nominated as a key supplier, so we shrunk down to a skeleton staff of about 40 and put the rest of the workforce on furlough. We introduced face recognition thermal scanning on the way in and out of the door (which on average is getting used more than 5 times a day by the workforce) put one way systems round the factory, shut the canteen, took on and extra cleaner, and gave everyone the relevant PPE. All operations are now distanced by more than 2m and we have divided the workforce into different shift patterns to separate start/ end times and tea breaks and an induction course was given on return to work.

So far so good. Last week we brought another 50 guys back and next week the remainder will return other than 8 who are deemed as at high risk and will remain on furlough until the end of the furlough scheme. When it ends we will review the situation with the 8.

Overall a huge relief for them all coming off furlough to get out of the house and return to some normality and ongoing certainty of income.

For all the criticism of the government in the press and social media, the introduction of the furlough scheme has been outstanding for us and has absolutely maintained employment levels, to the point that we are now advertising for additional staff.
