Hi lads, I've just bought a 2010 4/4 sport and I'll have to tackle greasing the kingpins for the first time pretty soon (800 miles in first week of ownership). I reckon it'll be easier to take the front wheels off but I've just noticed there isn't a jack or a wheel spanner with the car!!! Can you give me some advice on what type of jack I should buy bearing in mind the low profile of the car and also, is there any type of spanner that would be "gentle" with the chromed wheel nut?

For greasing the KP's no need to jack-up or take the wheels off. Ly along the front of the car and its easy enough to get the grease gun on and wipe off the excess grease. It does help to have a grease gun with a hose on it. While you are down there, if you havent already, wrap a piece of old inner tire around the lower springs and fix them with a tie-rap on the housing. Keeping sand out prolongs the life of the KP's and reduced stick-slip. If you need a spanner for two eared spinners, do some searches on this site, there was quite a lot of ideas offered a while back. I ordered the spanner from the MG club but I find its not a good fit. I need to do some filing. Cheers J

When I took delivery of my 2010 4/4 Sport in August of last year, there was a spanner and hammer in a zippered vinyl bag along with an aerosol can of puncture sealer, but no jack. I guess no spare tire (tyre for you Brits), no jack is the policy at MMC, weight savings for the Sport model. The old hydraulic jack I use will not fit under the rear diff, so I use a piece of lumber across the rear frame to raise the back of the car to get jack stands under the axle I have taken the wheels off each time I grease the front. Good excuse to clean the wire wheels. Doug

I have found the spanner from MULFAB to be ideal for the non eared nuts. Long enough to get leverage but small enough to carry with you if you want. Good clearance from the car to avoid scrapes to you car or knuckles.

Thanks very much for all your help - greatly appreciated! I've got to say...this car is bloody addictive - I didn't intend to put too much mileage on it but I've already clocked up 1500 miles in one week! Any excuse to go out in it and I'm there!

Many thanks for all your replies! Forgive my naivety - but what is the Heart of England? On the Worcester Old Road. In fact it's net to Mike Duncan's if yu want to go there in person either come off the M5 or, if you are going the 'country back way', it's about four miles from Stourport
