Anyone got any more ideas?

Perhaps I ought to find an auto electrician or should I go to a Ford dealer? I'm not sure it is all Ford wiring apart from the engine stuff. The dashboard wiring is the same as for a +8 of similar age.

Don't be shy about employing an auto electrician, he'll crack it in minutes if he's good.

I get king pins changed by an expert as although I do servicing and brake rebuilds I'm not equipped to do them so leave it to the experts.

There was a French owner that followed the instructions religiously provided on here for king pin replacement and ended up being hospitalised with a broken jaw and losing some teeth, so the message is recognise your own limitations.

Good luck.

Thanks for that. I've put it all back together but finding an auto electrician is another matter. I have an appointment for 1st July! Still I have other things I can get on with gardening, sailing, restoring an old dinghy, tidying the garage (a career job) and many other things. I won't be idle.

Always a good idea to retrace steps. I notice you have fitted a radio and some sat nav wiring. Why not temporarily disconnect all that and see if there is any differ, ence?

Hi Deejay, Yes, I have done that. Everything worked fine and has done since I fitted all the new components, sat nav, radio (just a swap for a better one). I fitted LED indicator bulbs and resistors and still everything worked fine. The bulbs were dimmer with resistors fitted so I bought an electronic flasher unit but nothing now works, every time I switched on the hazard lights the 10a fuse from the battery and which supplies the non ignition components blew. I removed the resistors but still nothing. I checked the flasher unit and that works satisfactorily so I don't know what else to do. I've put it all back together and will await the visit from an auto electrician on 1st July.

If I understand then everything is ok except the hazard lights. Looking on the GoMog site wiring diagrams 1998/2004 4/4 percent it seems there are two Hazard Light relays
Elec Dia

Is the problem here?

and what looks like a couple of external diodes?

What is on the diagram and what is in my car appear to be two different things. I had a look behind the dash. There is only one relay (for wash/wipe). The hazard warning switch on the other hand has seven connections to it so i wonder if the relay is combined with the switch. I have eight pins on the hazard switch with connections of the following colours: R/W X 2, G/N, G/K, P/R, G/W X 2, G, G/R. (i.e. seven connections). There are two tiny electrical devices (the diodes you mention?) soldered across two pins.

Why would the wiring diagram show two identical relays side by side?

There are two large black boxes. One has no markings on it but has the following coloured wires coming from it; W, B, U, R, O/G. Any ideas what that is? There is also a large black box with a label saying something like Morgan Dashboard Control (I can't tell you what wires come out of that as I have put it all back together and pushed it back in the garage whilst I get on with other jobs).

I have just pulled the switch and connectors apart. Nothing looks wrong with either component. Having put it back together and switched it on the 10a fuse has immediately blown.

I've run out of ideas but thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Hi, Deejay.

I'm no electrician. The diodes, if that's what they are, are soldered across two pins in the hazard switch. Perhaps later I will take it apart and post a photo but we're going sailing shortly so I will be away for a few hours.

Have no idea if this might help... a pic of the relays behind the dash on my 1986 +8 Ignore the blue relay which controls auto choke operation, the other two are flasher related and you can perhaps gain understanding by checking the colours of the wires and identifying them from the colour code list in the link below... Perhaps a handy sheet to print out ..?

Good luck.
