I appreciate that these are very unusual times especially in the workplace if staff aren’t furloughed, but does anyone have experience in dealing with DVLA in Swansea at the present? and what are the lead times for documents being processed.

Took a fortnight to process Heather's new car change (paper), so working.

I SORN'ed her old car in the middle of this and that worked instantly online.

I renewed my driving license via the web, and the new license came within three days. However Honest John is full of people at wits end as the DVLA were not responding, and said they would only process documents for critical workers. The DVLA had also said they were not handling paper based applications. However if you can carry out what you need by talking to their computer that seems to be working.

It appears that if what you need can be accessed on line is all well and good but i have tried to retain a personalised vehicle number only to be informed however computer says NO and that they need to look into it further due to the vehicle licensing history and to send the V5 along with V317 application and the fee of £80. How long will that take now??

My new Roadster was delivered mid May and the V5 arrived within a week. I immediately reregistered it with a MOG plate and the new V5 arrived 4 days later. All done online.

Recently bought a 2 CV privately. The seller sent the V5 bits to DVLA, I had the V5 in my name within a week. Car was bought 28 May.

I was very surprised at the speed!

Taking my number off the Brooklands was a matter of days, the change of ownership of the new MG was about seven days. Both done on-line & painless.

That’s encouraging as I’ve read so many horrendous tales of the DVLA not even dealing with the postal requests.

Horrendous delays if your not doing everything online. Because of medical conditions I get a 50% reduction in road tax. I applied on April 5th and because they have not updated their system to facilitate this (7 years now they have said its due soon) I have to send in V5C, V11, V10, Statement of entitlement from DWP and a cheque for 50% of their advised amount.

Nothing by month end and car now illegal to use for hospital appointments, can’t use public transport or patient transport as shielding. All reported to DVLA by email. Auto reply said they are not taking email queries. Sat for ages on phone, after waiting system said only taking calls from NHS staff and essential workers!

Wrote in, nothing for a month and hospital appointment imminent so rang and waited and got through to the ‘essential’ helpline. They advised there was a room with thousands of postal applications and no idea when they would get to them as they hadn’t started. Advice was to pay full fee online and write in and claim the 50% reduction. So I did and could use my car.

Sent letter into refunds department as advised, copied all emails and dates and that was 4 weeks ago and nothing yet. My cheque has not been cashed and the latest is they say they may have lost my paperwork and so I must pay £25 fee for new V5C and also get a new MOT certificate issued and get a duplicate statement of entitlement from DWP.

I have advised them I have put matter with my local MP. We still await the outcome with interest.
