Having had my late 2012 chassis crack in that manner followed by the autumn 2013 replacement also cracking in much the same way, I certainly would suggest that only the 2014-on chassis with the welded in tube bracing stands a reasonable chance of not cracking in a car that gets used. I'm unconvinced that the retro-fit bolt in brace can provide the additional rigidity to avoid this type of cracking at the wishbone brackets.
I do wonder just what proportion of the pre-2014 chassis have failed and how that compares to the proportion that have done more than a token number of miles. Bit of an interesting question.
Hugo, hope MMC sort you out with a new chassis in a reasonable time and get you back on the road. Good luck with it.

I agree with Calum on this , and suspect that all the early chassis will eventually fail as the mileage increases , even if fitted with the bolt in reinforcement . I would only feel happy with a post 2014 chassis .
As Calum says it would be interesting to know what proportion have failed and the mileages involved .
But I don't think anyone will know the answer to that question !

Hope yours is sorted quickly Hugo

The time/miles the machine was operated before the brace was installed, road conditions where operated, and manner in which it's driven are all significant variables that can only reduce certainty on this subject.

I do find it depressing that as purchaser of a second hand machine, I'm likely looking at a chassis change at some point in the future without any consideration from MMC though this is clearly their issue.

Well how is this for customer service.I called the factory at 9am to discuss the chassis cracks, by 1.30pm i had an email stating that the car will have a new chassis fitted under warranty and be picked up by the factory on July 7th . How long they will have the car maybe another story but all positive so far.

Great to hear - hope it is back in time for the post-Covid motoring season!

Good stuff.
It is something of a relief to hear that they are still accepting the responsibility for this.
As for how long it takes. it's hard to say. The actual swap over doesn't take particularly long but you only need one crucial widget to be out of stock...hopefully not!

How many pieces are in the replacement of the chassis? How difficult is it? As my m3w is a 2013 & if forbid I needed a replacement I don’t want to ship my m3w back to the Uk from Kuwait.
