Whilst at Krazy Horse the other day Dan kindly let me take their PlusFour demonstrator for a spin, must say I am very impressed with it. I haven't actually driven a trad (and never will as I am far to tall to be able to - my legs are wedged under the wheel with no chance of movement!) so I can only really compare this to my Aero 8. In all it was very impressive, it drove very much like the Aero - it felt stiff, gripped well and you have the same "sit in the back" feeling you get being over the back axle. I would say for an entry level car it is mightily impressive, I didn't push the car hard but you get a good feeling through a few roundabouts as to how the chassis feels and it felt modern and stiff. Onto the drivetrain and I was seriously impressed, it is a fantastic engine that sounded great (lots of deep exhaust rumble and burble and turbo noises to top it off!) and that was on the factory standard exhaust. It felt like it had a lot of power in such a small car and the torque made it effortless, a seriously quick car in the right hands. This one was an auto and it was great, having a few BMW's myself it felt very comfortable (in a good way) and as much as most bemoan the BMW shifter I don't - it comes from one of the best manufacturers in the business, i'd be proud of it tbh.. yes not inkeeping with the design but all the complicated electronics inside it mean its very hard to change. The interior was nice, and the electronic dashboard is a neat touch that displays information such as when you adjust the heating - felt rather modern but suitably retro in a nice sort of way. All in all I would say go drive one, it really it a serious machine and definately commands respect when it comes on song, one must wonder what the Plus 6 is like on full chat..bonkers I imagine and rather lively! They also had one of the last trads with the gold chassis - in the flesh.. gorgeous!

Drove the auto today & am very impressed by it. Much better than the plus six in my opinion.

That is very interesting to read John it certainly sounds to be the sweet spot in the CX line right now and quite surprised you favored the autobox but good to hear your glowing report.

I am working on it but first I need to convince my self (short arms & deep pockets). How about you?

I was also very surprised but it is a great car. The price though is eye watering.

I also took the Krazey Horse plus 4 auto out today. A very impressive machine. I can summarise
The good...vast improvements It felt far faster than expected. Not quite as mental as the plus 6 but more than fast enough for the real world. It felt really well put together and very solid. No clattering of the side screen when shutting the door, very refined feeling when driving The great box is excellent in either manual or automatic mode making the power there when ever it’s required Handling and ride much improved Much better legroom Overall a vast improvement over the trad in nearly every way.
The bad...none are major I didn’t find the seat comfortable. There seems to be pressure in the middle of your back. It improved after some adjustment but not as comfortable as the trad seats Less width for elbows Everything is computer controlled. It appears it is not as easy to swap bits as it is on older cars There are the dreaded warning buzzers that drive you nuts. Something thankfully missing on the trad’s
Overall I left the showroom thinking yes, I want one...however driving my GDI home down the country lanes with the associated thumps and clatters you realise the CX does not feel so handmade as the trads. Although it is better in nearly every way it has also lost something which makes Morgan’s so special. You could almost be driving a z4, which many think would be a positive thing, as it feels like a modern car rather than a classic car. Something where Morgan offered something unique in the motoring world, a new classic car.
Will I be tempted to swap my GDI? Possibly. The CX is genuinely a much better car but to me It has also lost something on the way. Cost is also a factor, for the cost of changing I could buy a new 330i and keep my 5 year old Morgan for the Same money.
I’m sure some people will disagree with my comments just as some may agree. Buying a new car like the plus 4 is down to feelings rather than logic.

I would agree Gary. I am conflicted for the same reasons.

Gary, Hawk,
It is a stunningly impressive little beastie. I agree with you Hawki, the seats are the weakest part of an otherwise very, very good machine. The ride and roadholding are approaching Aero Chassis cars.
BUT.... to change I'd need to find £25k. It makes no sense, financially and the seats and brakes in Tarka are way better. With SSL's magic the ride is also better. But if I got one as a competition prize I'd keep it,.... wouldn't take the money instead. A manual PlusFour with wire wheels and Tarka... what a pair.
