Mountaineering possibly! - there are diverse vacation options - each to their own - I would never climb a mountain, but I don't mind skiing down them (well groomed blue/red pistes)
You should try all types of leisure once mogging, dogging, cottaging and cruising,

Maria and I were discussing the people we met in Positano on our tour. The restaurant directly under the hotel was brilliant and even did a couple of special requests (without asking for a penny). They only had about 7 months of income and had to make it last the year so were on a short income anyway. My heart goes out to them. The only thing more worrying is that with the cruise liners all tied up we will probably be in for more Jane McDonald on the telly......(joke, she may not be to my taste but can sing well)
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Yes these people in the customer service businesses some on zero hour contracts and as you say with short seasons ordinarily will be taking a devastating hit as they are highly unlikely to have any financial buffers in place like the rest of us are lucky enough to have.
Where my son works in Cornwall they were on the cusp of employing 100 extra seasonal staff when the Covid happened and at present although plans are to open the business on a limited basis on the 4th there is no need for the 100 staff on this basis. The sadness is that as they were seasonal furlough was unavailable to them.
It's a very real worry for a lot of such workers in the Westcountry being so dependent on the tourist trade.
Pretty please no more Jane McDonald..

has banned me from watching Jane McDonald because I always end up shouting at the telly when they show her to her ‘single room’ and it’s the Presidential Suite. There’s nothing wrong with her having the best cabin on the ship or boat but they never mention it. Any single, first time cruisers inspired by her travels might be a tad disappointed by their broom cupboard above the boiler room.

This is not good news for the cruise industry - they obviously started too soon and have probably set the industry further back: Coronavirus: Dozens test positive for Covid-19 on Norwegian cruise ship https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-53636854

Yes it looks like they got going a little too early with too few precautions with the benefit of hindsight, lets hope they all pull through.
It was one of their boats that turned up in the Dart and disembarked passengers for a look around the town during the second week of lockdown here and we were all concerned at the time.

We have two small Holland America ships that usually base themselves around our coast, but they are not here anymore and the cruise ship season that usually starts in October has pretty much been canned this year, I actually enjoy watching them come and go, perhaps I will become a ship spotter when I get old...(have never been on a cruise though, but have sailed offshore)

Right now, going anywhere with crowds has the risk of death die to covid, and herd stupidity is still strong.
Another outbreak from an Aberdeen bar in the news this morning. Too little, too late, and now now too soon. Yes hindsight is amazing.

There are a number of Southampton based massive cruise ships moored off Portland, busily going nowhere, but burning diesel as they keep all the lights on.
I'm in total agreement with DaveW, common. sense says "keep away from any form of crowds". I do, but then I always have.
I am saddened, but not surprised, that the Government Scientists haven't come to the conclusion that the more people you test, the more positive cases you find. I'm certain that the lockdown in Manchester and the NW is mainly down to increased testing and if, for example, Nottingham, Bristol or Southampton was subject to the same level of testing they would also be subject to lockdown. COVID 19 is circulating in the community, the vast majority of cases are asymptomatic, with other people who are not seriously ill. There are very few new serious illnesses, there are now more people in Salisbury District Hospital with other serious illnesses than with COVID. Actually the last report I saw said SDH had no COVID patients.
