I had a flat battery at the garage today and the mechanic opened the hood and connected jump leads whilst I turned the car over. Needless to say the car started fine. My question is that I assumed to jump start the car i needed to connect leads to the battery. Where do you connect leads under the bonnet? I have a 2.0 litre 2014 plus 4 with a ford GDI engine. I could not see what the mechanic did and forgot to ask afterwards. Can anybody tell me in simple words(or better in pictures) where you attach the leads. It is obviously much easier than trying to get at the battery.

I am replacing what I assume is the original Yuasa YBX3075 battery with exactly the same again unless anyone recommends a better one.

I would venture that the red +ve would go on the bolt head that fixes the battery cable to the starter motor, the black -ve where the earth strap is

Now the observant will see that in this photo there is an extra cable on my car because I have fitted an Anderson connector to the inner wing for easy jump starting

That's pretty thin cable for jump starting Tim!
Anderson Power Poles - best thing for electrical connection! thumbs

Yes that is where I assumed that would connect.

Re size of cables, the angle of the photo does not do them justice. I got them as part of a great set meant for a TVR, which also included a short Anderson to croc lead and a long Anderson to croc lead, unfortunately the engineering firm that produced them are no longer trading.

Agree about thin cables Graham. Checked the spec of Tim's connector and they take a max of 10mm2 cable's which is dangerously thin when a jump start would be providing most of starter current!

Having seen some good reports on the internet (YouTube - Hubnut channel) I bought an iclever jump start pack.

It’s pretty compact, but usefully has 2 USB outs and a torch built in. Plus a plug - in 12 v cigarette lighter type socket.

Just under £80 from Amazon. I’ve not used the jump start facility yet but have used the USB to power camera in the Citroen which has no built in power outlets..

Recommended.
