Anyone having running problems with series 2 roadster - sometimes when stationary revs stay at 2000, stays there for quite a while, sometimes requiring the engine to be re started before it rectifies itself, sometimes after a few minutes it clears itself, this is not like the revs hang whilst driving, although it does that as well and I have been told that is a charicteristic of this engine, any info appreciated, Cheers

My 97 +4 did that and it turned out to be a duff ECU. It could be I guess an air leak after the throttle body.

next time it does it - whip out your trusty iPhone and video it occuring. I find it makes you look a lot less barking trying to explain it when you can show the video.
Better still if you happen to be driving then get the better half to use theirs so you still drive......

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Hi exbiker, Has the dealer looked at the Idle Air Control Valve? If it is not the ECU, it might be a sticky IACV? Should be easy to check. You find it on top of the inlet at the throttle body. It looks like this (upside down) The ECU controls idle by controling this valve allowing air from the upstream port to the downstream port in a channel that by-passes the main trottle valve. Good luck with it. Cheers J (also exbiker)

Thanks for all the information everyone!!
Got plenty to do now, amazing how you get new ideas from other people, never even thought about videoing the event!!
Will be in the dealers during the next couple of weeks so will let you know the outcome, Thanks

It's taken a while but I think I have sorted out the problem. The air inlet pipe to the air cleaner has a rubber end, (both ends, but it was the open end causing the problem) the rubber had folded into the inlet pipe thus restricting the airflow, so far none of the high revs at idle (the revs still hang under accelaration but have been told by loads of people this is normal for the engine in this model)

Do you mean the ribbed hose that takes the air from the area above the radiator to the airbox intake? I have seen this hose folded inward a bit at the radiator on several roadsters. One of my future projects will be to replace it with something smoother and possibly to a cooler area. But if it is this hose you talk about I am amazed that it caused a high iddle. At iddle there is soo litle air required, a slight restriction in the intake should not make a difference. I know what you mean with the rev-hang at high rpm, anoying, but as you say many engines of many brands do this. Its caused by the pollution control gizmo's (EGR/IACV). Cheers J
