The exhausts are stainless rather than chrome and will discolour with the heat even with non standard silencers. There are some chemical treatments that will take a lot of the hard work of getting them polished back to clean from the blued heat affected look. The surface left by the wrap might take a bit more effort. You might need several cases of beer if the plan is to sit down with a rag and a tub of Autosol! I tried Autosol and pita is being polite in describing using it. If you take the head pipes off and have a fixed bench buffer then you will be not be a stroke victim laying on the floor with a polishing rag in your hand.

Best bet for a good final finish is probably to take them off as you say, polish them to a very high quality gloss using a bench polisher, several different mops, and progressively finer compounds. Then you need to thoroughly degrease them, re-fit it while wearing clean gloves, degrease them again then fire them up and give them a good long, hard run in dry conditions...this won't stop the discolouration but will make for even discolouration. Loss of the will to live may then follow and an acceptance of heat coloured pipes. An added refinement would be to get a system made up in titanium, go through the polishing and cleaning steps and then see the spectacular colours that result!

Hi Calum, while I don't expect them to be chrome under the wrap but am I safe to say before the factory wrapped them that they will are slightly polished? I am aware of the blueing as the sports manifold from Williams I installed on the 4/4 did this but was clean metal at least, if that makes sense. Just dreading that I'm opening up a can of worms when taking this off but hope it's not so bad as it's not been driven much at all. Cases of beer at the ready

Cases of beer at the ready Hi Perry I can't imagine they won't be polished under the wrap but there might be a bit of scuffing from the wrap; it's pretty abrasive stuff. The blueing might also be a bit uneven because of contact with the wrap and any sweaty/greasy hand prints form their installation. If the car hasn't done many miles and you don't really want the wrapped look, then getting rid of it sooner rather than later is probably best but will likely take a fair bit of work to get them to an even, clean, gloss. They will then blue up again very quickly (blue as in a mixture of straw colour through to blue depending on the surface temperatures that is) so you might decide to polish them once or twice then accept the colour as "character" or even "patina" though I think it only becomes patina if you're trying to sell it!

I paid to have my exhausts machine polished, and they came up as new - I would probably recommend this over doing it by hand, you might be there forever otherwise! They will discolour, but I think that looks pretty nice anyway because it is still shiny..

Perry have a length of 50mm x 50mm wood at home so that when you get home you can put it under the front edge of the seat. It makes a difference to comfort. When happy with it consider fastening it to the seat base.

Perry, there is an excellent product on the market for polishing the front pipes to look like new, i've just done both mine from scratch and it only took less than half an hour, it is Autosol Anti Blau it's available on Amazon at £16-10. a bottle, it makes it easier if you use a metallic pan scour or similar to apply,it should last a full season, it's brilliant.
