I am finding it difficult to find the rubber foot. Anyone know of a different part number for a piece that will work? Called Walbro and Summit and neither has it. Also, is new plastic hose needed, or can you retrofit the existing hose? If not, anyone know the diameter and a source? Much appreciated! The base comes in an installation kit. I bought kit 400-766. The instructions that are running around are great however I am not sure the parts they reference there are factory walbro parts and appear to be available in the UK only I ordered from summit -GSS342 BX pump -400-766 installation kit -1275 hose Total cost $109 shipped.

Ken, you are correct about sourcing in the UK compared to usa. I used the UK part numbers suggested and Summit Did not have them but i bet they would have the Subaru kit.

Some quick questions for those who have done this job. I have the parts from US suppliers so hopefully the hoses etc fit. Sourced mine from Summit with part and kit numbers others have shared above. As is obvious from my questions, I have yet to open up the system, so just want to clarify before starting:
Did all of you change the fuel filter at the same time? I am assuming it is not necessary to do with the pump replacement.
Does the white standoff unit from the original pump fit the Walbro pump without any modification other than to the rubber foot?
For those who used the kit from Summit: - I assume the rubber foot needs to be cut down from the top to the referenced 6 mm, to fit under the white standoff unit? - it includes a filter unit, which I assume we will not use since it would not allow the standoff unit to be placed? - it includes some hose clamps; did you use these, or get some crimp on clamps?
Thanks to all!

While I didn't use the Summit kit, here's what I recall from my own change to a Walbro pump:
Not required to renew the fuel filter at the same time, but probably a good idea.
I only had to do a slight alteration to the rubber foot. Do not recall the particulars.
I did use the sock type filter. There was one originally in place on my car, just a slightly different design.
I used crimp on clamps that I already had. Hose clamps should be fine. Just not super tight as those convoluted hoses seem as it they may split if a clamp was done up excessively tight.
Once you get the plastic cover off that hides the pump assembly retaining ring (mine had massive amounts of sealer holding it in place) and figure out the fuel line disconnect trick, it's a pretty quick and easy job. I assume you have the fuel pump replacement guide as posted on the MTWC site?

Thanks, Steve. Always enjoy reading your posts. You’re obviously talented with a wrench.
The filter that came with my kit looks like a little old fashioned water bottle that would hang out the side of the pump, so i don’t think it would allow the standoff unit to fit. Thus, I was going to follow the replacement guide’s suggestion to clean and reuse the existing filter. I will have to see once I get the unit out.

Just remember that the cleanliness of the fuel filter regulates the fuel pressure to the injectors. The dirtier it gets the lower the fuel pressure. I think HalfFull was referring to the sock type filter on the pump, as that was the one that was suggested could be re-used in the guide. The main fuel filter canister has an integral fuel pressure regulator that maintains 58 psi at the injectors. It isn't the cleanliness or restriction of the filter that regulates the pressure at the injectors.

Planenut, is it a spring valve inside the filter that regulates the pressure? So the filter itself is not the regulator but a mechanism inside the filter that does it?

I honestly don't know what the internal set up is exactly and have not found any detailed information but how you describe it is what happens. Filter restriction should not change the regulated pressure to the injectors. The filter units main purpose must be to regulate the pressure, as a filter after the injectors just seems to be wrong.....but it is a Morgan
