K. I think that the DVLA only issued some previously unused 3 letter, 3 number Scottish plates to accommodate pre 1963 classics that were re-imported to the UK,
My dealer contact told me that he used it as an indicator of it being a possible re-import.

I am quite interested in early plates and was lucky enough to acquire one for my 2003 4/4,
It has 3 letters (YDV) followed by 3 numbers.
First used in 1958 on an Austin A35, by Pikes Garage Exeter.
I bought it cheaply from the son of the first owner, prior to him scrapping the car,

Sorry as I am part of a drift off topic but..?

Budster and K, on the numberplate question, I also think that if an interesting number from an older vehicle was sold on, part of that process would entail a re-issue of an old reg ASU PSU and similar to the donor vehicle. If I am correct, part of the transfer process was that the new issue plate for the donor could then not be sold on, which seems logical..? Thus the ASU/PSU and others similar may not be a sure fire way of identifying an imported classic.... If ever there was a sure fire way of identifying any classic...

One has only to beam up the case of Old No 1 at the English High Court to learn that original and identity can mean two very things... as for the value of either, I leave it to the individual to decide...Interesting stuff..No..?

Yes, £250 for JH06 MOG so not so expensive for an age related plate sometimes.

Re: the number plate of the MGTD - the guy driving the car told us that his father had bought it from a man who had come over to London from Dublin not long after it was new.... his father bought it so that he and his bride-to-be could ‘Go Away’ from their wedding in it, and, apparently, that is what they did.

The original ‘Z’ plate was retained, even though later cars registered in Ireland were treated as imports & had to be re-registered in the UK.

Arthur ....Thanks for that ..... went away and googled it ....to find that Ireland used the British system up until 1987 .... I was surprised it hung on so long after independence (you might have thought such symbols of the 'Establishment' would have been the first to go .) ..... Living just a short ferry ride from Dublin when in Wales I hitchhiked around Ireland a lot in the 60's ..... but it never registered with me.(no pun intended )
