Didn’t mean for my post about the MGTD to drift like this, but, as it isn’t a ‘Morgan’ thing, thanks for putting this up, Bud!

The whole number plate/registration subject can be really interesting, can’ It? I’ll never forget when, in a ‘previous life’, my then father-in-law got really upset when Southport became part of Greater Merseyside (rather than Lancashire), and his new car had a ‘KD’ plate - previously used for Liverpool along with KF (I think).......... he was so angry that he couldn’t have ‘FY’ or ‘WM’ anymore, which showed people that you came from Southport!!!!!!!

I don’t think that he ever forgave the authorities for the come-down!

Back in the day those two letters were very important to those who cared,

Hereabouts, Rotherham was ET, and the Mayor's limo had ET 1 for years. Not sure if they still have it.

KH was an easy one to remember in the area I grew up in, representing (Kingston upon) Hull. Most of my Dad's cars included that in the reg. The mayor had similar of course.

I saw ET 1 out and about just a few days ago.

I grew up in Inverness. A wealthy family who lived in a grand house just outside the town on the North Road, had the registration number ST 1 on their Bentley S1.
We used to find it amusing when watching episodes of The Saint!

I have known of someone obtain a three letter one number reg plate, the first and last letters matched his Christian and surname, he subsequently adopted the middle letter and signed correspondence with the three letters..(-: Which is perhaps a less expensive way of appearing to be somewhat extra special...? laugh2

I still have NKH1V, which was issued on my MGB in 1980, before they got wise to it and stopped the low numbers going out automatically. It was from Armstrong-Massey, the BL (and RR dealers) in Beverley.

Recently had the Auburn Boat Tail registered but it covered so much ground they gave it a postcode rather than a rego number....... laugh2

I remember seeing A1 on a black Granada around 1978, I seem to recall that it was owned by Firestone or Goodyear at the time. It's now shown as on a BMW Mini.

Also knew someone who had NS1, his initials. He later swapped it for a large motor boat, to go offshore fishing.

I retained my old log book and Vin plate when i sold my 1961 MGA for spares .when the new. Paper log books came out i sent the
Old one to DVLA . Never to be seen again. after months of arguing with some very rude managers who claimed hey had never received it I finally gave up and lost my number plate. Still have the Vin plate.

.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.
