Lots of history with that car...... it suspension was developed and added to, tweaked, redesigned by several chaps/companies before it was completed.
I drove it Up and down the lane outside the Farm where Peter was based several times and got it up to three figures before braking for the S bends, very, very impressive!
I saw it for sale at Williams some time later at an open day (think it was the Team Lotus day?).

The original wishbone suspension was designed by Allan Staniforth, a well know hillclimber and suspension designer.
It was designed on behalf of Dave Rutherford, who built it into (Frank Grimleys?) racing +8 for the Northern Sports car championship
When Dave was looking to retire he sold the plans to Rob Wells of Librands fame
Rob commissioned Pete Mulberry to build him a kit for his +8 (MOG8R)
When I joined Mulfab, Pete had just bought a crashed Series 1 Roadster to build for himself
I was tasked with getting all the drawings up and together and making the wishbone kit producible in small volumes
I also sorted out a few geometry issues that the early kits had
It does work very well, it completely eliminates bump steer, gives a fantastic ride quality and handling
The only issue that I never fully resolved was the lack of self centring from the steering
The kit needed more castor built into it
I’ve still got in the back of my head to do a Mk2 version, with a lot of revisions that could hopefully be cheaper too

It certainly worked superbly Simon, I didn’t pick up the lack of self centring but I was rather busy ;-), Pete wouldn’t come out on test with me he just said ‘give it some, find it’s limits“..... I got nowhere near the limit! (and Pete knew I used to do this for a living on the XJ S3 chassis programme ;-)) BR Colin

Mr Staniforth knew a thing or two about designing race cars .... still see his terrapins and their derivative, the megapin, on the hill racing circuit ....was excited to find I'd be in the next paddock slot to him at a Harewood meeting ...sadly he had to pull out from ill health .... never got the chance again ...he was a great and influential designer.

I almost bought this car when it was at Williams, l had a test drive and strangely my only comment to Paul was the lack of self centering. Paul said they would check it over. Unfortunately we couldn't agree on the value of my +8 .very disappointed that the deal fell through.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

I'd recommend Allan Staniforths book 'Race and Rally Car Sourcebook'
One of the most frequently referred on my bookshelf!!

Yes that’s the one. It is pictured on the MSCC Mendip Centre pages on Flickr under the album name Bristol Classic Car Show 2015. Reg. no. NK05ETO. I organised our stand that year and you will see we under lit the front and had a mirror on the floor for visitors to inspect the underside.

Yes that’s the one. It is pictured on the MSCC Mendip Centre pages on Flickr under the album name Bristol Classic Car Show 2015. Reg. no. NK05ETO. I organised our stand that year and you will see we under lit the front and had a mirror on the floor for visitors to inspect the underside. I pretty much built most of the car, it was about 18” shorter when I started....
