I don't know if anyone is following the Ineos Grenadier saga ,but the latest update showing the clay model is now available here - INEOS GRENADIERI must admit to quite liking the look of it - a bit of a cross between a LR and a G Wagon ( apologies if it has already been posted....) James

Following this with interest and wondering if the Grenadier will be a worthy successor to the L-R Defender since I cannot afford another Discovery without eroding my pension pot now I am retired and the new Defender is rather expensive for what it is.

Now that does look nice probably as it is so familiar, it's the Tonka shape restored once more.

There are several articles out there that say they tried to buy the Land-Rover tooling but were rebuffed. This Wikipedia Article is quite interesting.

I wonder what happened to all of the overseas Land Rover KD assembly plants?

I remember back in the early 1980’s making the radiators for the LR’s. About 2000 a month plus a smaller number for the others in the range. A few specials for military versions too. The factory is still going on the outskirts of the town here.

I have been told that it is very difficult / impossible to build a separate frame vehicle that meets the crash test requirements for normal private vehicles for example the Jeep Wrangler scores very poorly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whkznkuBgwE

Looks like a very nice Defender to me.
Trouble is that if it ends up at a £50-60k price tag it will confirm why JLR didn't continue with a replacement utility vehicle - because you can buy other good working vehicles much cheaper.
I do wonder if Ineos will come to the same conclusion as Mr Dyson, that making money building cars isn't so easy.
