Folks - final update to the ball-joint question as I have now received the MOOG parts from the onlinecarparts.co.uk site and can confirm that these ARE THE CORRECT PARTS. MOOG RO-BJ-3409 are of the right size for our cars, but research shows in fact that there are a few specifications for these "GSJ268" OEM equivalents. See this comparison table on the onlinecarparts.co.uk website (should have known that the Germans would have had this right in the first place!);

MOOG Ball-Joints

As you can see, the MOOG RO-BJ-3409 is a 14.5mm Taper at the top, which is correct. Note that there are in fact 2 types of GSJ268s - one at 13mm and another at 14.2mm. I suspect that those ordering GSJ268's that fit were fortunate enough to get the fatter types (14.2mm v's 14.5mm - I guess it's as brod as it's long really). Those who bought from MiniSport (in my case 3 items), got the smaller spec versions which don't fit. So it might be wise to update the Alternative Parts list with comments and references to the MOOG ones, as those shown on the link above at the top definitely fit! Pictures below for reference on their new boxes (the old knackered BJ shown for comparison).

And how it comes with its more professional looking packaging too;

Finally happy. I have a new one that fitted already (First Line FBJ5150) and a pair of MOOG RO-BJ-3409's on the shelf waiting for then next one to weatr out smile thumbs

Even better, the MOOG ones also have a 6mm Hex socket in the head so that you can actually undo the thing if it starts to spoin in the wishbone as the nut is welded on tight .

16,000 and it's properly dead in the position in which it sat all those miles. Probably 5-6mm of vertical play!

Now we just need to figure out how to buy them in the U.S. I've tried several sources that claim they can't get these, even though they are Moog distributors.

Thanks for all the detective work R1NGA, I will update the Alternative Parts List for the next issue, it should be out soon. There are a lot of variations in sizes for GSJ268!!!

I'm amazed that a part designed for a heavier automobile can wear out in this application at 16k miles.

Are they lubed and sealed from the factory, or is there a way to get grease into them?
