Good job detecting the source and solving it, Draggin. I think we all have been driven crazy by rattles and extra noises. Another common source of rattles under the bonnet is loosening of the support bracket for the battery.

Most of my nasty noises come from the front mounts on my G56 exhaust system. I have made it a fraction better by fitting larger and softer bobbins on the mounts but when I am reunited with my M3W in France next week, I am going to put 2mm titanium 200 x 200mm reinforcing plates (eBay) on the front mounts on the inside of the bodywork but bonded with Loctite E20HP Epoxy and riveted to it with 6mm stainless steel rivets. The only difficult bit on this is going to be drilling the holes in the titanium for the rivets and the mount bolts, as unlike the UK, I don't have a drill press in France. I am told that to drill titanium, slow speed and lots of pressure plus cooling lubricant on the bit is the way to go. I might take it to the local steel fencing and gate people, who I know have a big industrial drill press and it has a cooling/lubricant spray system.
