One question: If you turn left or right at an intersection, does your turn signal also remain permanently on and must be reset manually? Mine stays on until I turn it off.
Best regards Bernd Added: It's a 1981 4/4 4 Siter with original indicator (it think)

With the standard switchgear, it should self cancel if you have turned sufficiently (for example a 90 degree turn should be plenty).

My '72 resets itself, so I imagine your '81 will. However, as Paul says, it is dependant on 'amount' of wheel movement. Is it a standard indicator stalk?

When living in Texas, I learned that using indicators, is considered a sign of weakness.

I love my indicators so much I used to leave them on.......self cancelling can be a little sporadic if there's not a full turn of the wheel. Now fitted a little gizmo that starts beeping after a while if I've left them on

There should be a little egg shaped alloy cam on the top of steering column immediately behind the steering wheel hub.
It is this cam contacting the ears on the indicator switch which causes the indicators to cancel.
Not sure if the cam came fitted to the upper steering column when Morgan sourced it or whether it was done in the factory. Its pretty crude so probably it is a factory part.
Now this cam is drilled and tapped to take a small grub screw - probably something like No8 or No10 UNC.
What happens us that the screw slackens or drops out, and the cam remains stationary whilst the steering column turns which means the signals aren't cancelled!
Kind regards
Arwyn

Hello, when I'm right in the 1970/1980ies Morgan uses the usual british stuff, as Triumph, Austin, Jaguar, Mini and so on. It was high-tech. My Mini was selfchanceling, my Mums Volkswagen not... As bespoke there must be a nose at the boss that switches the indicatorstalks. If you undo the boss you see the cuts in the mechanism. And you see the noses. In cause there are some years after the build, may be the mechanismn is worn ( you can test it with the boss off) or there is no nose at the boss. That you will see too. That is the switch. May be you've got the sharp edged model. When you have a look at the center you see the two whole for the reset. https://allbrit.de/etk_detail.asp?

Here you see it better:

I think this part would fit if the mechanism is worn.
