Chaps,

Just had my S1 serviced at Allen Whites in Cranfield and thought that the front tyres needed balancing as there was a mild shimmer from the half worn Pirelli Asymmetric's.

However it turns out that these tyres have worn unevenly (rears too...) despite me religiously keeping the pressures to 24 psi. Conclusion- is this why this model is not sold anymore?

Therefore I want to replace all four black circles.

I've read all the threads I could find and concluded that Toyos T1R or PXT-1 or possibly Yokohama A048 would be the way to go for sports orientated road driving, (I don't want a track tyre). If anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them.

Also, given to understand that 255/35 can be fitted to the rear (rather than 225/35) on the standard rims. Has anyone done this and was it worth it?

I think I saw your Aero there the other day, lovely car!

Just checked my Pirelli's and they seem to be OK but I can recommend the Yoko's. Had them on my Caterham and they are an excellent tyre.

As a Series one owner, can you just confirm if your oil pressure guage reading drops to the far left when the engine is hot and at idle? I've got a thread going to try and clarify this as my newly aquired car is worrying me!

Not so sure about the tyres but my S1 oil pressure always drops to the far left when the engine is hot and idling.Been like that for the 30,000 miles I have put on it !

Hello Andy,
I had the same problems with Pirelli tyres on my S1. Brian Gateson at Techniques suggested fitting Avon ZZ3-225/40 on the front and 255/35 on rear.
The transformation is fantastic, ride, cornering in all weather conditions.

Thanks for your comments; my car was actually a test bed vehicle for Morgan who had it for its first 3/4 years, so whilst it's an S1 it does have some S2 mods as well.

And yes I can confirm that the oil pressure needle does drop to the far left on tickover.

Also the 'engine management' light appears just to be slightly illuminated (compared to the other idiot lights) when the car is running- not be confused with its appearance on the 'check list' when the ignition is on and the engine is not running.

When I bought the car from Brands Hatch Morgan two years ago they said this was a 'regular' fault but was nothing to be concerned about- certainly I've had no engine issues.

Thanks Dave that is most helpful, I believe that Avon's are standard fitment on the new Aeros.

Mike- did you see the Sheik's Aeromax at Allen Whites? First time I'd seen one in the flesh.

Not Morgan related but I really don't like Pirellis at all, had a few bad experiences with them. Goodyear F1s consistently get excellent reviews from all manner of high-powered cars, as do Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

I think it'd be worth it if you took your car to a laser alignment place when you have them changed, as they can correctly set up castor, camber, other geometry etc. rather than just doing a simple balance. Might cost a few quid but should transform the car if it's 'out'.
