Driving a lot of miles as I do, I am very conscious of good rear presence in poor visibility. Most modern cars have Fog lights incorporated in the light cluster, whereas Classics may only rely on the dangly rear bumper affairs, always prone to damage and being bent out of alignment, if they're working at all. My own sorry affairs were over exposed for daily country driving and the inevitable reversing up to bramble hedgerows etc. After some research I opted for combined LED reverse and Fog lamps, sold as a matching pair, from https://www.bettercarlighting.co.uk. The number plate Plinth is the only mounting option, and initially I considered moving the number plate lights inboard to the end space over the number plate; however this would have left unsightly holes to be plugged at the ends. Although a squeeze, and only testing the offside, there was just enough room to mount the new lamps without changing anything. All good right, because cars are made symmetrically aren't they? Not hand built ones seemingly! Not insurmountable with some later modification, but for now I at least have a working minimum legal fog lamp, and a working reverse lamp. An easy mod, and one that improves the look of yer back end (OohErr missus) by cleaning up the dangly bits.

Why not fit two lamps and only connect the wires you want...

Because the number plate box isn't symmetrical & there is no space on the other side.

Thanks for posting. Been thinking of doing something similar but I know the original square lamps are placed to hide the bumper brackets. It would be nice to see a rear view pic in daylight.

They do come as a pair and I will be fitting the nearside. My thinking is to shorten the number plate, centralise it! then move the plate lights inboard by 5mm or so each, thus creating the necessary space and symmetry on the n/s but covering up any original fixing holes. Of course, I coulda /shoulda measured both ends to check beforehand; we live and learn! I'm pleased with the result though, and glad to see the back of the bumper attached reverse and fog lamps.

Rog, yes the bumper brackets are visible,just, but I think preferable to the add on lamps. I'm sure if the technology existed at the time MMC would have incorporated fog and reverse into the tail lights if they could, and not even thought about hiding the bumper brackets.

Yes I do like the cleaner look without the bolt on lamps.

It really does maintain the hand made look doesn't it? Can't imagine a German or Japanese robot having a Friday afternoon or teabreak! moment
