Whilst enjoying myself at Newmarket I had a long walk around the car park as everyone does.

I met a Dutch guy who had a Simmonds mirror & had also added sun visors. We both have the hoods with 10 fasteners. I said that in torential rain quite a lot of water gets in at the top of the windscreen. This is probably not helped by the addition of the mirror & sun visors that clip on to the top of the windscreen.

He said that he had solved that problem. He showed me that between the round roll that fits just inside the top of the windscreen & the outside fasteners he fitted a rubber strip. It was sticky backed & thin enough to still allow the fasteners to lock yet formed a water proof seal.

Well he purchased this rubber seal in Holland. I tried Halfords but they could not understand what I wanted. I then tried a few auto component shops but could still not get exactly what I had seen.

Now I know that with this dedicated group there is an answer to every question. So please can some kind soul tell me the correct name of the thingy that I need to buy & where I could purchase it from.

Many thanks, Lol

Adhesive seals are here at Holden's.

I stuck a strip of "P" rubber across the top of the windscreen. You can get this stuff from most hardware stores - sometimes it is sold in a double strip, but is easily separated. When the hood is attached the pressure forms a good seal across the top of the screen. Worked for me!!

Cheers!

Dave many thanks. I have looked at the Holden's link.

Thanks to you I know what to look for, the thingy now has a name. "adhesive polyethylene strip" The strips supplied by Holdens start with a depth of 25mm & a thickness of 6mm or 10mm.

I have not measured the clearance needed yet. I am going to guess that 25mm is to wide and I will probably need a width of around 10mm & thickness of 6mm would most likely be fine.

Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction.

Best, Lol

Very sorry Dave, that was silly of me. I missed your wording under the link.

"same seal I used on mine. Works a treat"

As 25mm is the minimum width that Holdens supply. Did this fit or did you have to cut it down?

Slightly off the main topic but Simmonds now has a top support for the Simmonds / Kalft mirror that glues to the screen rather than clip over the windscreen surround and therefore introduce more leaks
