If someone is in Colorado I am sure the flyin Miata guys would be happy to help to open up a new revenue stream. It would be great if the Miata flywheel and clutch fit as there is a lot of options that are likely far better than what we have. I live in Colorado, where are the Flyin Miata guys based? Please take your Morgan there. It would be awesome if they got engaged on our Morgans. They do great stuff for miatas and if the old guys are still around they like to make things better so would love to have more Morgan goodies to buy.

Thought I would bring this back up again with a few more thoughts on it.
Since the M3W uses a Miata starter, the ring gear on the M3W flywheel must be the same diameter/teeth etc as a Miata. I have compared the stub shaft on the M3W that the flywheel bolts to with a Miata flywheel dimension specifications and they match, So a Miata flywheel should bolt to the compensator stub flywheel shaft. I don't know this for sure, but the round plate that bolts inside the motor to trans adapter that houses the flywheel stub shaft and bearing assembly, should represent the same distance as the crank flywheel flange on a Miata motor. In other words, the flywheel "should" be displaced inward inside the trans bell housing at the same depth as if it were bolted to a Miata motor rather than the M3W adapter and flywheel stub shaft.
If that does all match, then there should be no issues with using a Miata lightweight flywheel/clutch setup as a replacement for the more costly M3W original setup.
Has anyone gone the extra mile and done some trial of the Miata setup in their M3W yet?
Still cannot believe that Morgan would change the reference measurements for the M3W from the stock dimensions of a Miata minus the Miata motor etc.
Just thought I would rattle the cage again and see if anyone has any new updates.
Thanks!
Have a great week!
Dan

Dan,
While I haven't had my machine that far apart to check out your conjecture, I do agree with you. I think the operative word in your post is "lightweight" as the S&S crank weighs something like 43 pounds already, and with the Centa unit and shaft a lightweight flywheel and perhaps small diameter (though properly torque rated) clutch would be in order.
Whatever MMC uses for a clutch disc/cover it must be reasonably well suited to the task as that and the gearbox are about the only parts of the car that don't get a lot of failure discussion in the forum.

Now that clutch friction and pressure plates can be sourced from a company in Leeds at very competitive prices I don't think it is necessary to reinvent the wheel for us at least on this side of the pond.

When we took the clutch out of my mate's three wheeler the fly wheel looked like something you could do with a saw and file in the shed very crude and lightweight, and i was quite horrified at the old
clutch newton motors had replaced was like new which he kept as a spare the Bleazy sausages lasted 2800 miles and have just been replaced here's hoping .You guys deserve a medal.

I know this has been mentioned before, but, which clutch plate should we use? Cg motorsport have lots of clutch plates listed under Mazda MX5.

If you contact CG Motorsports and tell them you have a M3W they will know what you need as they have done quite a few now.
