I suspect the garage concerned could not be bothered to order new gaskets so just bodged it. To be fair the "repair" lasted 4 years (albeit two of those were with the car out of commission with a broken chassis) and around 3000 miles before the leak onto the down pipes started to get very smelly. The mating surfaces are in good condition and my straight edge, with an LED torch behind it, did not show up any dips or distortion. The last owner was even more of a perfectionist with his cars than I am and would have been very cross if he had known about the bodge.

Truth be told...I have used a tiny dab of black bond on one of these gaskets when the alternative was an indeterminate but likely long wait for a replacement. Lasted a lcouple of years till I needed to sort the other one by which time I had a pair of new gaskets ready to fit. I would say that my bodge was done carefully with no chance of the silicone breaking free into the oil.

"They" used it because they were too lazy to do the job right. (IMHO). Sort of like blue sealant around coolant connections on water cooled engines

Both rocker covers now done. The second one which was hardly leaking, seemed to have a different sealant on it, which scraped off much easier. I found that after all, I did have a flat machine scraper at the back of my screwdrivers drawer, which made life easier. Also the sealant had not been applied with a shovel on the right hand cylinder. The right hand cylinder (looking from the back), does not seem to get as hot as the left hand one, as it had not cooked the sealant over the exhaust port. I notice this at idle where the left hand exhaust is going "ponk ponk ponk" whereas the right hand exhaust is going "pluff pluff pluff". Anyone else notice this?

I've noticed the sound difference as well, and have measured (with an infrared gun) a sginificant exhaust temp difference between the two about 3" from the head. Next time I have the Protune hooked up I'm going to see if replicate the maps between cylinders to even things out. I suspect there is a variance due to the originally intended placement of the engine in a motorcycle, where the rear cylinder could be run a bit rich to aid cooling.

Possibly the difference in fuel distribution.

I need a pair of gaskets. Just bought was I thought was a pair -Part No. 106-0622 - but the seller only included one gasket! Deception - as it was advertised as S&S 106-0622 which is a pair. Argh... I've just sent off an email to Matt at mattsmachineshop@btopenworld.com, and also to my "local" Morgan dealer, but no response yet.

Might be worth giving BIG DOG MOTORCYCLES a try. They have used the X-Wedge in their bikes and are the ones selling 'cheap' cam belts.

Tried Big Dog, quick response, but no luck: "S&S Discontinued all of the X-Wedge motor parts and sold off their inventory. I cannot get them anymore."

Matt Neal also responded quickly with "Unfortunately as S&S have ceased supply of X-wedge engines and spares and our stocks are now exhausted I cannot help." He suggested I try https://www.berrybrookmorgan.co.uk/

Waiting on a response from the local dealer and have sent off a note to Berry Brook Morgan also.

This is VERY worrisome - if S&S will not even supply normal maintenance spares for a recently produced engine, how will we keep these things on the road? I would have thought Morgan would have required S&S to continue to stock spares for some years after production ended, but I guess that's too much to ask.
