Good evening all,
Having visited BHM today to have a siezed rear wheel cylinder changed, a Brown and Gammons Morgan Wheel Cylinder CW15953 was fitted. I assume this was the same as the original cylinder.
The garage gave me the cylinder to take away, having cleaned it and now it is not seized and servicable again, I would like to replace the seals and bleed nipple etc, can any one tell me the correct replacement seals and nipple to buy? and this can serve as a stand by cylinder should I need one in a hurry.

I also noticed that the brake fluid was a horrible brown colour so I would like to change the fluid as soon as possible, would DOT4 be the fluid of choice?

I'd be inclined to either get a spare set of new one's in stock (they are cheap) link for OEM I fitted a pair to my Plus 8 five years ago, which a few of us do or get them sleeved in stainless as others have done for a more permanent solution.

Dot4 is what you need.

Yes please use DoT 4 Fluid. DoT 3 is also fine but you need to change it more frequently. Do not use the Silcone based products.

Richard is right, get a spare set or sleeve. Fitting new seals to a corroded and previously seized cylinder may prove short term.

I had this very conversation with Peter Mulberry a few years back and took his advice. Someone like biggred.co.uk may help with resleeving.

Ford Transit cylinders are identical apart from the position of the locating pin and are available for £15 or so so why bother re sleeving?
Easier to drill the backplate rather than relocate the pin in the cylinder.

It is entirely possible that I'm talking a load of rubbish here but maybe others can verify this.

I thought that the pin was in a different position because it also signified that the cylinder had a different bore.

I.e. Different pin position = Different cylinder bore.

The reason for the different pin position as I understand it is so that you can't fit the wrong cylinder.

I could be mistaken and maybe this an old wives tale.

BTW, I would have expected BHM to have changed the fluid when they replaced the cylinder. I would ask them.
