I used FOCAL in the coupe and S2 and found them excellent. Has JBL in a Volvo years ago and they were great for fast/noisy music.

Don't forget to over-amp them as they like a lot of power to keep them tight.

I haven’t fitted my Pioneer subwoofer yet as I just need to do a few alternations to the leads and drill out for the locators but I swapped the head unit 10 mins ago to my new one which is a Pioneer DEH-80PRS and I’m
Just blown away by the quality of the audio from what I had before

My old head unit was a good quality Sony one, only a year old which I paid around £100 for linked to some 4 inch Blaupunkt speakers which were installed when I bought the Mog so I didn’t think I would get a massive upgrade in sound without fitting the sub but boy was I wrong

The quality of this head unit is fantastic

If you fancy an quick upgrade, I can recommend this unit and the Focal speakers

The head unit was £255 and the speakers were £100

I’ll report back with photos when I’ve done the sub

Interesting Stewart, I upgraded my Pioneer stereo & speakers to a Sony Bluetooth stereo & Focal speakers.

The Pioneer stereo I fitted was at the cheapest end of the range and the Sony an improvement but from what you say its worth spending more especially in a Morgan where the stereo has a more difficult job to be heard.

Having only 2 speakers and a cheaper stereo, I think a Sub would probably make a bigger difference to me so I look forward to your photos and findings.

Yes my first head unit in my last Mog was a pioneer but it only lasted a year and then decided to give up so I went away from Pioneer to Sony and I like Sony’s music centre App on my iPhone which can control the head unit through Bluetooth

But on reflection the bad experience with the Pioneer was probably down to it being a much cheaper unit, it was only about £60 and you probably get what you pay for

I did quite a bit of research before I bought this new head unit and was willing to pay much more if it delivered a noticeable improvement. I was nearly tempted to go for one of Sony’s high power 1 Din units but they’ve had problems with overheating and I didn’t think that was terribly good idea in the footwell of a Mog with absolutely no space behind the heat sink

The Pioneer 80PRS has reference quality converters and although the power on paper looks identical to my Sony, it delivers a much better sound without distortion when cranked up

Wonder which model of Sony you have Rob? Mine is a DSX-A510BD as FM/DAB and Bluetooth capability were major requirements for me, same footwell speakers as well although have second pair hooked up closer to my ears. Now have the Sony Music Centre app on my Android phone working perfectly (after reading connection instructions ) where previously it was very flaky. Also updated firmware on radio (improved Bluetooth and DAB reception) which was painless. Can now access and tweak the radio's 10 channel custom equaliser from my phone where previously you had to do acrobatics to work with the radio panel.

Its very useful to get a recommendation because car stereo has changed so much recently. I have a mechless stereo as I don't use CD's anymore and was amazed at how little car stereos weight these days, though I would expect a bit more weight for your new expensive Pioneer unit!

I also had visions of photos of you fitting some kind of large wooden enclosure in the footwell for the subwoofer but I now see that you can buy slim self contained units which fit under a car seat .....but maybe not a Morgan seat?

The underseat rails are too narrow for all the compact subs I’ve looked at so I’m going to fit my Pioneer TS-WH500A sub flat upright against the firewall in the passenger footwell - it fits perfectly

In my last Mog I had a similar sub fitted there with a false panel infront but it shortened the footwell just a bit too much so as I’ve got black carpets and as the sub is plain black with a black grill, I’m not going to bother with the false panel. I’m just going to glue some black acoustic carpet to the top and bottom of the unit either side of the speaker grill with some Dynomat behind the existing carpet

It’s only 60mm deep so it will be fine for passenger leg room and won’t be seen

I have a Sony A410BT which I assume is similar to yours but without DAB and also the sing along Karaoke setting (which I assume is your reason for buying it) . I don't listen to radio much and have a concealed 'aerial' so you cant even see I have a stereo fitted.

I really wish I'd fitted a Bluetooth stereo when I first got the car but was put off by a previous thread on here on here and comments that you wouldn't be able to hear it and they preferred the exhaust sound. They were wrong, I can hear both the stereo and the exhaust even at high volume, in fact I hear the exhaust even more because I seem to drive the car harder with music playing!

As you say the Sony phone app is great. No need for a separate remote these days and all my music library, track change, volume and equaliser all on my phone which will be shortly fitted on a magnetic mount on the dashboard.

With some rear speakers and/or a subwoofer similar to Stewarts I reckon I will get a really good sound even if not in Stewarts top of the range league!
