I remember that too Bruce, same vintage ours was stationary not half as interesting and I think the Pathe News theme will probably be the last thing I remember there is something about it that has seared it's way into the grey cells..

The taste of that disgusting Kia Ora orange drinks from those cartons was pretty special too..

One of my fond memories is visiting the theatre at Stanford Hall (near Loughborough) and seeing (and hearing) their Wurlitzer organ emerge from the bowels of the building at amateur dramatic society productions. At the time, Stanford Hall was the Cooperative College.

Sadly, whilst preserved, this building is part of the military site at the new DMRC (Defence Military Rehabilitation Centre) at Stanford on Soar ( Replaces Headley Court) and no longer accessible to the general public. It is great that the buildings have been preserved and their new purpose is something to be very proud of -just a bit sad that local Am-Dram organisations have lost a wonderful venue. When we first moved to Aberdeenshire 30 years ago, Peterhead had a small cinema still surviving .... it had the lady with the ice cream tray and a ticket booth where the ticket popped up like magic from an invisible slot in the stainless steel counter .... they used to be standard in cinemas everywhere but have disappeared now ..... probably best not think about the hotdogs swimming in their tank since VE day

One memorable event was a screening of the old silent classic vampire flick 'Nosferatu' at the Music Hall in Aberdeen ..... with a live pianist improvising the soundtrack non-stop for the entire length of the film .... as a musician I was well impressed!

Bless her, when they get older normally they don't want a reminder, I used to pull Heathers Mum's leg when it was her 90th and called her my favourite Nonagenarian mother in law and she was quite pleased with that as we were great Scrabble combatants in her former years grhs, it would have been her 93rd tomorrow.

I have never seen one of those appearing I must try and catch one sometime although I guess they are like hens teeth nowadays.
Nice bit of local knowledge I hadn't realised that about Headley Court.

I remember those magic slots I think there was one for each type of seat possibly three although that is a bit vague now, little boxes of Poppets could be purchased from the tray lady I seem to remember.

Now the pianist playing along ad lib really is a talent that I would have put many years before your time Keith.

For clarification .... we're not talking the 20's here .... it was a one-off performance about 20 years ago ... was just impressive to hear him improvising to what was on the screen for that length of time.

Around the same time the some friends in the village of Pennan put on a double bill of 'Casablanca' and 'Local Hero' in the village hall ..... Local Hero was partly shot in Pennan ..... very atmospheric evening in a fabulous little coastal village attended by pretty much all the residents ... and odd to walk out of the hall onto the 'set' ..... a couple of local ladies dressed the part and dispensed goodies from trays in the interval ....a very '50s feel for a '90s event.
