I remember our milkman with a horse and cart. The horse stopped and moved on without prompting. We used to have rides on the cart too. Waldo was the milkman’s name. Can’t remember the horse’s name though.
My mum was an usherette in a local cinema for a short while when in her teens.
We also went to the Saturday morning Odeon cinema club. Cartoons, serials that had endings changed between episodes. The hero who was in a car going over a cliff edge in one episode was seen jumping clear in the next.

Smiling here, my mon was also an Usherette and my dads favourite and often repeated joke was that when he met her she was a Corsetier……. he would put on his best Brummie accent and say 'she used to shout, Yow Cor Sit Eere'...…….

The fondest memory though was what was know as the 'Cockle Man'. White coated and basket over his arm and would tour the local pubs, and in Brum there was almost one on each corner, selling seafood on a Friday and Saturday night. nothing like a pint of Brown and Mild and a couple of bags of Whelks ;-).

We used to take mother a bag of something back after a session.....

Happy days in the Back to Backs of Birmingham.

Yep ... Saturday Morning Pictures .... best I remember is the hero falling out of a spaceship and landing in a haystack .... stretched even my childhood credibility to breaking point ( interesting thought to have lived at a time when spaceships and the old style haystacks were both images in current use!)

Went to the Granada Cinema .... on a bit of road called 'Granada Hill' locally .... not only the cinema disappeared ... the whole hill's gone !! smile

Public service broadcasts were better then too. Matter of fact and straight to the point, to my childish imagination, they were very graphic, “ polish the floor and put a rug on it” ....death, “ learn to swim young man, learn to swim”.....or death. There was one about climbing electric poles... more death.

Nowadays, it’s all corny feel good scenarios, love thy neighbour, take an old person for a walk, discuss your feelings, everyone’s a winner etc.
Mind you, I never did like Rolf Harris, his learn to swim advert gave me the creeps even then..weirdo, “ meet Dave, he swims like a fish” was better.

Sorry to our international readers, this will all be gobbledygook to you.

We had the “Paraffin Man” who had a van and did home deliveries.
We used to pick our own cockles and mussels. Mmmmmmmm love’em.
Parson’s Pickles had a factory in a street in the town too. A vinegar smell filled the area.
Buckley’s Brewery had a coopery where barrels were made/repaired. Once a week they closed a road to roll them across from the transport building the other side. My uncle used to get spent hops from there for feeding his cows at milking time. The cows loved them and I swear the milk tasted better grin2
My granddad used to make coffins for his mate who was a Funeral Director. He used to babysit me in the workshop.

Smiths crisps, I remember that plus flying saucers.
Just think Smiths could now offer the healthy option where you decide via the latest thing a blue bag how much salt you add.
