Speedo & milometer not working but indicator lights still are.

Any ideas ? I needed a new speedo sensor 3 years ago - could that be favourite again ?

Many thanks

Which model and year Richard?

Is the sensor on the gearbox output shaft or the offside front hub?

Aren't all on the front hub?

Besides a bad sensor, it could be a broken wire to the sensor (check the vulnerable area near the sensor) or in my case, I had a loose pin in the connector behind the electrics cover. So it's worth checking out the wiring before spending the money on a new sensor.

For a while in the mid noughties Steve some cars had the sensor on the gearbox output shaft. My 2005 Roadster is this way.

On the hub sensor, there's a small built in light which flashes as the wheel turns, and this validates a signal, but you need dim lighting to see it.

OH! Just noticed this is in the three wheeler section! Doh!#

The wheel speed sensor also has an input to the ECU for engine idle control. There is a plug near the RH wheel hub in the sensor loom and that seems to be the source of many of these problems, a look and clean of that would be a good starting place. There are a number of Google instructions for checking the function of the wheel speed sensor by spinning the wheel and checking the resistance at the plug on RH hub. Better to check the sensor than just replace it. If you had a new sensor 3 years ago you would hope that it is not the problem. Clean and remaking all the plug connections is a worth a try.
