Evegeny Lebedev for a Peer of the Realm, I don't think this is what we want. The Lords is supposed to be a place where experts sit and provide sage advice and who temper the excesses of Government. A former Soviet Oligarch and son of a KGB Colonel is probably not our guy.
While I'm at it, where are the Scientists and Engineers who build the country's infrastructure, the educators who bring on the children, those that commit their lives to the advancement of others, the Philosophers who question.
This year, like all the recent years, it's the cronies and donators who get to sit and relax in the fake splendour.
Shame on us.

Ah yes, you are spot on with what the Lords are supposed to be. The reality is somewhat different. It’s a place where cronyism is rewarded, people are rewarded for supporting a political view or financially supporting a party. On one hand BJ is talking about reforming the Lords (so Dominic can push through poor legislation) whilst appointing a Tory supporting Russian (ex?) spy and Evening Standard (well known for being edited until recently by ex Tory Chancellor) owner who also bungs the Tories a few quid, BJ’s brother and Ian Botham FFS.
An independent chamber to scrutinise, advise and amend legislation? I don’t think so.

As always - the people with money and influence who get the goodies rather than the people who actually do the work.

I totally agree with your disgust at the whole charade, but feel that I must point out that Lebedev is not guilty of owning the Daily Mail; he owns the Standard.

The Mail belongs to the tax-dodging Harmsworth/Rothermere family (although they also still own 25% of the Standard, so there is a connection there).
